Question about 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

1 Answer

I am thinking about buying a 2000 Chevy Blazer and when test driving I heard a ticking sound... when you take off and getting up to speed the sound is gone and no vibration in the gas pedal but when the car is idle it returns... Brought it to Expert Tire and the kid there seems to think that the sound is being caused by the gauge cluster and that if we replace it, it should go away he did not seem sure of his answer at all and I would not think that you would be able to feel it in the gas pedal... Just curious as to what it is before I buy it...

When you start it everything sounds fine/normal once goes down to about 800 rpms the ticking begins and stays until you accelerate... there for it returns at stop signs and whenever you coast or slow down and the rpms drop

There could be several reasons for the ticking noises. to be sure can you tell me everything in detail from when you start the vehle to when you shut it off. this will help me narrow down the likely cause

well this sounds like you have either a failing tps sensor (this controls the idle) hense the drop in rpm on idle. also you might have a slight exaust leak coming of the manifold.( this could be due to something as minor as a loose bolt or major as a cracked pipe or manifold. also the ticking noise could be a loose heat sheild that rattles under low vibration but at driving conditions stops thios happens quite frequently. now these are some minor reasons for the ticking. some more troublesome and costly reasons are rocker arms are loose, lifters are weak and are not making good contact to the cam and or push rods. your oil pump is weak and can't circulate oil to the top end under idle. now if the ticking were to be constant i would say that perhaps either one or more of the lifters is weak or a lobe or two on the cam was worn, but you did not mention a loss of power so i doubt that to be the case. often times especially with older high milage vehicles sludge builds up in the valve covers and oil pan this restricts flow of oil and as you sit under idle the oil doesn't get to the top end like it should until you get higher rpms. i w2ould look to have the oil changed pan cleaned valve covers took off and cleaned if neccessary. make sure that the pick up screen in the pan is not clogged and the oil pump looked at to make sure it's not missing or has worn teeth. let me know of the results and if the problem persists

Buy new please. Transmissions are super hard to build. will cost you about 5000 grand though, might want to think about getting a new car/truck.

2000 chevy blazer passenger front wheel noise

driving in 4wd on hard surfaces produces what is known as torque wind up as the wheels cannot slip so the variations of distance going around corners , dips in the road etc place considerable strain on the transmission , transfer case , drive lines and diffs
that is why it is difficult to get out of 4wd unless you drive with 2 wheels on a grass verge to relieve that torque wind up
as for the noise check wheel bearings and the cv ("U") joint at that wheel as there appears a proble where the dog teeth in the hub are not engaging properly or are jumping out of engagement

I have a 2000 Chevy Blazer and the power steering went out. My question is that before the power steering went out I heard a noise like air brakes being released. I have never heard this before and...

Power steering pumps whine when they start to go out and when they are low on fluid.. I guess this does sound a little like air brakes. Been a while seen I've worked on big trucks.

Have a 2000 chevy blazer overnight something kills battery

Yes you need it,it controls lighting and such. What you were told, and what is tested, and diagnosed,is another thing,so ,do this,Unplug the alternator plug in on the alternator, and see if it goes down during the night,if it does not, replace the alternator. The regulator in the alternator could be open.Or a diode in the alternator could be blown.Have the alternator checked on the vehicle at the battery also, the auto parts store will do this for free.
