Nox sensor. What is it? How much does it cost to repair?

I am looking at buying a 2005 Jetta but the seller has told me that the check engine light is on. He said that the nox sensor is out. What is the purpose of this sensor and on average how much does it cost to repair it?

Well, it could be either and oxygen sensor or a knock sensor.

Oxygen sensor monitors O2 levels in the exhaust.

The knock sensor listens for engine pinging and adjusts the timing as needed.

Prices vary on repair. I would recommend having the owner of the car either show you something from a repair shop that has the sensor name written, or take the car to a parts store that offers free code scanning and see what comes up.

I have a 2002 Dodge Dakota. I cracked driver side head. Although the 4.7 motor didn't have EGR til 2005, there is what appears to be an EGR on the head. How can this be?

egr is smog
some countries even calif is a country (with C.A.R.B) laws
that dictate what EGR systems can be used.(by year/engine)
SO your head has EGR main there?. clear as day right?

no VIN told or country told.
but then you shop for head.s and wonder why some have it and others do not, well now you know. (laws from 1979 to now)

cars that do not need EGR (engines or countries)
we add VVT to it and no more egr (valve main i mean)
we have special cam in the engine that is egr free (my jeep had it in 1988)
we run lower compression ratio and no more egr
we run smarter knock sensors and no more egr.
the knock is heard even at tiny levels and spark is retardedd fast.

egr is NOX gas reduction system and there piles of ways to do that
and also the 3way cat also eats NOX for breakfast.
nox happens going fast up hill, mostly.
lots of ways to control NOX. gases (and is very nasty stuff)

The code on my car vw new jetta 2005 its a 2.5 the codes is reading on my car p0322 and code p3081 the reading was took when my epc light came on and my engine light on and i have a oil link i smell r

code p3081 refers to engine temperature too low===causes--allow engine to warm up---cooling system fault
I would check for a thermostat stuck open

code p0322 refers to crank shaft position (CKP) sensor/engine speed (RPM) sensor--no signal===causes--wiring---CKP/RPM sensor---ECM

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON SHOWS CODE P1072

This is for the NOX sensor-heater control-circuit malfunction. Many sites try to interchange numbers and give you common P0172 which is for richness. But specific Brand info for Hyundai is P1072 and that is a NOX part.

Please rate my info.

Engine light is on. seller said it is a sensor, could this be true?

Sure, but WHICH sensor? If thats all it needs , get the seller to pay for the repairs. Dont buy it until its either fixed, or you have a qualified repair shop diagnose and give you an estimate for repairs.

NOX SENOR

I have yet to see a car with a Nitrogen Oxides(NOx) sensor on it. However I have seen Oxygen (O2) sensors. The O2 sensor monitors the remaining amount of oxygen left in your exhaust, and tells your Engine Control Unit(ECU) how much fuel to use. The sensor looks much like a stainless steel spark plug and is found in the exhaust system. Your car being a 1991 it should only have one. It will be up stream of the Catlytic converter, maybe in the Exhaust manifold. cost between 50 and 150$us.
