Question about 2005 Dodge Stratus

Overheating slowly Just bought a used 2005 Dodge Stratus. When we picked it up, my son drove it 50 miles on the interstate with no problem. Then he parked for 15-20 minutes and left the car running with the AC on. The engine began to heat up and neared the red zone before he shut it off. The coolant appeared a bit low so he got some and added it. The car sat for an hour and then I started it up. Let it ran for maybe 15 minutes. Tried AC. Compressor ran but no cold air came out. After about 15 minutes the heat was still slowly climbing, getting to just over halfway. Shut it off. Heard gurgling noises. Opened the hood and saw the coolant overflow tank was overflowing. Then it stopped overflowing and in the span of maybe 30 seconds it emptied almost to the bottom. Heard fluid rushing in a radiator hose when this happened. What's going on? Do I need to flush the radiator? Could it be the thermostat?

Make sure the radiator cooling fans are both coming on when the A/C is turned on. This cools down the condenser which is mounted in front of the radiator. Dodge has had issues with the fan controls for years. There is a fan control module which turns the fans on when the a/c is activated or the engine temp reaches a prescribed level. I would replace the thermostat as well if the vehicle has been previously overheated or has high mileage. Good luck

Yes. Replace thermostat.
If not the problem then replace the heater core.

A/C - may need to be recharged - (may be a result of car overheating as well) - TIP: while driving use MAX A/C so the pump doesn't have to work as hard to cool the air - you will save gas this way - Also, using A/C saves more gas while driving versus having the windows down or cracked.

I hope this information is helpful to you. Thank you for choosing

After driving 50 miles with ac on then parking at home notice very loud fluids flowing within the engine area as i was walking away from car

As long as the check engine light and no drivability issue. The vehicle is just power down the a/c and engine oil is cooling down going back into the oil pan, The coolant pressure is going down. This should like it is normal.
