Depends on your level of experience, quality of your tools and whether or not you have any frozen head bolts. The valve assembly and head come off as one unit on those. To clear the wires, emmision controls ect off of the top of the valve cover 30 minutes. remove valve cover 5 minutes (too scrape off excess gasket material. to remove exhaust manifold from side of head, (assuming no broken/stuck/stripped bolts 15 minutes with good hydraulic tools. To remove head (assuming all goes well and hydraulic tools, 15 minutes. To reassemble, double all times as surfaces need to be prepped and gaskets applied and proper torque on all bolts. It's an afternoon job if you ahve everything you need and nothing goes wrong. Typically add at least two or three hours of drilling and cursing to a head gasket replacement. and a trip for new drill bits and a tap (not beer) for the new hole you drilled.

I would say an experienced mechanic could do this in a day.

It would take a few days to do it correctly .. dependeing on ur knowledge and if u have all access to the proper tools...also i say a few days mostly due to sending the head(s) out to a machine shop to check for warpage or cracks and to have a valve job performed..for me it would take about a day but thats because i am a technician and have my own tools and or access to everything to do the job..good luck

Don't change parts based on some code

Codes have nothing to do with parts

They are used to diagnose a system &
component test

No testing & no failed parts found, you learn nothing,
fix nothing,common sense

Why throw new parts at good one?

Snds like you need to be checking for the beginnings of a weak of leaking head gasket. Ensure the fans are operating correctly however, those engines are notorious for their head gasket failures

Oil droplets in engine coolant. Mileage about 100000 on 2002 V6 Buick Century.

Replace the head gasket. Don't wait any longer if you can or the engine may overheat and warp the head.

Was it a code for a small or large Evap leak? The first thing i check when ever i get a car in with an evap code is to make sure the gas cap is in place and closed tight. Then i take the cap off and give it a good visual inspection. Look for cracks in the plastic or deterioration of the gasket. Replace with an OEM part if you find a problem. Otherwise clear the code and see if it returns. If it returns it can get a bit tricky as there are many parts to the evap system and the codes aren't very specific. The use of a smoke machine which pumps pressurized smoke into the evap lines is extremely useful but obviously the average DIY'er won't likely have access to one.

For a car as old as mine, is it worth fixing the blown head gasket? How expensive is it? How difficult of a job is it? It's a 1995 Buick Century V6 3100 with an over head cam. Also, how do I know if the...

yes the head is machinable and it will be relatively difficult to do if not much know is in that vehicle. it is worth it but may cost a 1000 or two to be done because of all the parts that need to be taken off and put back together. As well as the machining part.
