ABS light comes on and stays on after about 5 minutes of driving
Had the front brakes plus rotors installed last week. Where is the sending unit, is it on the axle, on the calliper can't seem to locate it. Also the parking brake indicator comes on and stays on with the ABS indicator. Hopefull someone has the answer to my problem.

Re: ABS light comes on and stays on after about 5 minutes...
Sounds like an abs sensor or a pick up ring. The sensor is normally bolted to the hub assembly and the pick up ring is on the end of the drine shaft on the front or the back of the rear bearing hub on the rear. Bet you the garage who did your brakes knocked a sensor with a hammer and damaged the wire to one of the sensors.

First have the brakes checked, the abs and 4wd lights need to be checked, this is done with a scan tool, the computer stores codes telling you what part of what system has failed this will help in finding the problem, the noise my be a bad wheel bearing and has gotten bad to the point it has damaged the abs sensor and has made the lights come on , this is a guess you will need to have the computer scanned to get the codes. hope this helps, good luck.
Yes the rear has sensors, but seeing you just had front pads installed, I'd look for a loose or broken wire in the front first. I've installed front pads with the sensors and thought I got them installed right, come to find out they were not making good connection on the pads.
ABS LIGHT ON COULD BE A BAD WHEEL SENSOR CAUSING ABS UNIT LOCK UP THAT WHEEL OVERHEATING OR YOU COULD HAVE FAULT IN THE ABS UNIT.TAKE VECHICLE TO GARAGE OR DEALERSHIP.LET THEM SCAN THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM TO SEE WHATS CAUSING ABS LIGHT TO COME ON.
IF you installed the wrong brake rotors, without the ABS reluctor ring[if equipped],the light will come on.Second possibility is you damaged the ABS wiring to the wheel speed sensor. There is a harness to each wheel.
I have had this scenario many times. It is usually one of two things...
1) Brakes are worn and need to be replaced (front pads/rotors)
2) One ore more of the ABS sensors are not reading correctly. This could be either a hub & bearing that need replacing, or just a sensor. It would need to be scanned and road tested to pinpoint the problem.
have had simmilar problemn with my 1992 licoln towncar do have a solution however will cost hundreds you have a ABS speed sensor out as u kno the problem is you cannot only replace one because they are wire through the axels you have to replace both meaning either both front or both rear in your case if front driversside is faulty you will need to replace both unhooking will only cause light to permantely stay on one suggestion that may help atleast to get an inspection would be to dissconnect sensors to that paticular wheel shut off engine and restart when light is off dissconnect batter for 5 mins then reconnect tghis will reset computer inside possibly giving you enough time to get an inspection befoere computer resets and abs comes back on however it is not guarented to work depends on severit y of damaged sensor and how quickly you module can reset note that this is a temo fix abd sensor will not prevent any stopping or cause danger to braking system it will infact stil engage possibly not on that wheel but that is the problem with an abs as apposed to just a standard anti lock braking system more sensor to break and cost hundreds
did you try to change the oil pressure sending unit? usually that is the problem with oil lights if the pressure is good. And for the abs light go on a dirt road at about 30 and slam on the brakes if the ires dont lock up then the abs is good. they may drag a little but not much at all. the problem then may be that the unit on the hub assembly is not picking up right and needs adjusted or replaced all it is is a magnet on the hub and one on the rotor assembly or otherwise and when they do not line up and read each other the light comes on.
