I purchased a new timing chain set and the cam pickup was bad on the new cam gear and we had a no start problem. i took the valve covers back off put the old gear on the cam and it started. BUT be careful if u do that you have to wedge the timing chains apart before you remove that gear so the hyd adjusters do not over expand. 4.7 dodge engines **** BIg they made them trying to save gas but the parts and repair over-ride any gas saving i got.

New battery, new starter relay, checked starter its good. now what??

If the car is turning over and not starting or is it dead at the key nothing!! If it turns over but not starting check for spark at the plugs at least one if there is none check fuel pump sometimes if there's no spark the fuel pump will not pump its a safety thing so the engine won't fill /flood with gas other thing is timing chain / belt but I think if its a intripid 3.3 its a chain hard fix most places will say junk it because of the high labour cost but it can be done by yourself if done one same thing no fire timing chain broke

Dodge Ram 1500 put in timing chines and now it will not start. Why?

Did you time the chains correctly? That's critical - the cam sprocket and the crank sprocket MUST be in a certain position when you put the chain on or the engine WILL NOT run.

1996 gmc c 1500 won't start back fired & died & red light us on on my hyper teck power tuner

Sounds like your timing chain has jumped out of time, if the timing chain is old, the chain jump a few teeth putting it out of time having it fire at the wrong time when the exhaust valve is open. Check timing by pulling #1 plug - bring #1 piston to the top and line up timing mark , Ifind it easy to put thumb over spark plug hole and have someone bump the engine over and feel the pressure relief stop before you feel vacumm - timing mark should line up if the timing hasn't jumped

No compression in 3 and 5 in my 2000 dodge ram 1500 5.9 and what all should i change if i need to replace head or head gasket should i do any thing with cam lifters and push rod and timing chain

Hi panther You should have the cylinder heads serviced. They will crack & pressure test them as well as surface grind the meeting face. They will also detect any valve seating or guide & seal wear. As for the timing chain it depends on km. ok the engine has done. Check the guides & tensioner for wear. If in doubt have the machine shop check email out.

Won't Start.

These trucks have a problem with the catalytic convertor blocking the exhaust causing a no start condition, the three things you need to start fuel, spark and air. Try disconnecting exhaust in front of cat.

Give truck gas losses power and speed

Possibly the timing chain has jumped a tooth or two. Or the timing is off all together needs a timing light test done on it.
