Question about 2000 Dodge Intrepid

My car is in the repair awaiting a new radiator. By the time I got to th edealer all the coolant was probably gone. The high temp light shut off and the fix engine light came on and the engine strted making a tapping or knicking noise. I hope this noise is just from low coolant or do I have major engine damage

You may very well have damaged the cylinder head. Once you have the new radiator in you should test it to see if you were lucky. Sometimes driving a car without water too long causes the cylinder head to warp. If it is not bad they can skim the head and you can put it back on with a new gasket. Depending on the type, cast iron or aluminum will determin if you need a new or good used head. I hope this will help.

You could check all pipe work for blockages, and
l mean all.If they get blocked you will overheat, and
you appear to have gone the expensive way of getting
it fixed.Your heater has drain pipes that come out under
the car, you can get to these buy moving carpet and maybe
glove box under dash.Use black ties in the holes and clear
rubbish out.
If none of these work, but think pipe work will, when you go
on highway take thermostat out.It will not overheat them !!!

I have a 96 cadillacsls that is over heating- no leaks but it is pouring out the over flow tube?

Did you over heat warning message come on " Urgent shut off engine" or check coolant message? My coolant message came on but once car warmed up, it was late summer. No leakage but coolant level was low; added some coolant. Then it happened again but once car warmed up the check message disappeared. Then a few days later I got the Urgent Shut off Engine message! Thankfully I was able to pull off road and shut down immediately. Had it towed to Caddy shop. My water pump had gone out. New Pump and replaced all hoses. Then a year later check coolant light came on again, once car warmed up, light went off. This time tho a small leak in the radiator. My husbank put in a new radiator. Car has 117K miles and a few weeks ago outside temp 35, running late for work and didn't allow car to warm up but just a minute or two and when I puled away the check coolant light came on; but once the car warmed up (temp gauge needle in center) the light went out. Being the car is 17 years old I try to treat her like a baby and not push her so I do let the engine warm up before driving away. Do you have to add oil between oil changes? This is normal for the Northstar engine; your regular garages or full service stations don't know this; also make sure if you aren't using an authorized Cadillac garage that they put the right amount of oil; they want to put less than what is required. Not sure if this is really a solution more comments than anything... :)

High coolant temp

It is possible, how ever, I would check for inop coolant fan, or restricted radiator. If parts of the radiator are cool to the touch when the coolant fan has kicked in, very possibly resricted flow of coolant through the radiator.

In the past month my 1999 Jeep GC v8 4.7L has experienced slightly higher than normal engine temps. I thought it might be due to the fact that i was using it to tow for the 1st time. However today i drove...

Physically look in the radiator under the cap for coolant level, and check the valve in the cap for sticking. If air is present in the radiator it can't get out, and more coolant can't get in,(from the overflow). Either clean the cap or replace it and check that it is the CORRECT cap.
Radiator fins dirty, clean with a strong stream of water, not high pressure water.
Radiator clogged, have it boiled out, or replace.
Thermostat stuck open or shut, replace it.
Water pump worn out, can no longer move enough coolant, replace it.
Fan shroud broken or missing....
Electric Fan(s) not working, Check the fan, relay, fuse and engine temperature sensor's.
Belt driven fan, belt slipping, fan clutch is bad, fan blades have flattened out.

Air dam under front bumper is gone, loose, or broken. It actually has a purpose other than scraping on the driveway or curbs. It forces air up into and thru the condenser and radiator. If it

Nissan maxima 1999 temprtr increase more than half ,when increase speed ( new ladator replaced also plugs) some times shutdown

Hi,
The problem would be the radiator is somewhat already blocked. The coolant cannot flow freely to the radiator to the engine.
I would recommend that you bring your car to the nearest garage/radiator shop and have them replace or repair the said problem.Ask the mechanic also to check the thermostat valve, sometimes the valve is stuck up and did not open up freely and made the coolant passage too small for a proper circulation.
The temperature gone up during high speed means that coolant did not circulate properly!
Hope that solves your problem.
Thanks for asking FixYa!

2000 hyundai accent runs good though, when it gets up to temp. the car shuts off ,when it gets cold again it starts right back up whats my problem has a new radiator in it

car shuts off when temp, gets to normal--- causes: low coolant, failing coolant temp. sensor, air in water pump, failed radiator fan, kinked heater hose, check the coolant temp. sensor first.

At high speed engine temperature is Ok, at low speed or idle it warms up to over half way and the coolant level warning light comes on. There is plenty of coolant, an new water pump and a new thermostat....

is cooling fan coming on?? the coolant level light pertains to a sensor that is in radiator side tank that is notorious for going bad you may have two seperate problems normal temp at high speed tells me the wind passing across radiator is keeping cool when stopped or in traffic as temp increases pcm commands fan to come on if it does,nt you will heat up
