Well you could say that almost every part of the engine is part of the emissions system, but in the main in the trade we mean the breather pipes and the air intake system, if the motor has high mileage it could be that its burning a little oil and could have clogged the catalytic converter if you put some upper cylinder cleaner in to the air intake following the instructions on the can it could clean it out for you the chemical is not that expensive and its not that hard a job to do. if you still have a problem you will need to look at checking that none of the little pipes are blocked if they are just blow them out or use some carburettor cleaner to clean them out (off the car) and blow them dry.
hope this helps JR

I have a 2001 pontiac gran prix gt, recently the gas cap was left off and the service engine light came on. i read somewhere that this light will come on when cap has a leak or is left off? I took the car...

If the cap was left off and then the light came on, I'm sure that you already have, put the cap back on and then have them clear the codes. If it returns then we can move forward with spending money and replacing parts. Let me know.

I have a 2001 hyundai sonata, I have a light that is coming on, in the manual it says gas, exhaust light, what is that?

emmission light.
there is a small vapour leak in the fuel sytem of your car.
this doesn`t mean your leaking liquid gas -only a small amount of fuel vapours.
the emmission system of today`s vehicle are very sensitive, and when the car`s computer monitors this, it will display this information thru your dash warning light.
yor car is still safe to drive, but eventually you will have to fix this problem in order to pass a drive -clean -emmission test. See your service repair shop for further diagnostics..

It takes so long to fill my 2002 Santa Fe gas tank. As soon as I press the button to fill the tank, the pump stops, I have to wait a few seconds then press the button again. I was told all 2002 Santa Fes...

Your vehicle is equipped with a vapor recovery system, also called Evaporative Emmissions System or (EVAP). The purpose of this system is to trap fuel vapors coming from the raw fuel in your fuel tank so that is does not escape into the atmosphere. This is for emmissions control as well as safety. (most people don't think of it as a safety thing, but trust me, it is a lot safer not having all those fumes running around loose)
Anyway, the vent solenoid to your fuel tank closes during engine operation so that the engine can vacuum these fumes into the intake manifold and burn them. If you are trying to refuel your your tank with the engine running, this is the reason for your problem. The pressure of the air being displaced by the fuel entering the tank is fooling the pump nozzel int "thinking" that your tank is full and causing it to shut off.
If youare not doing this with the engine running, then there is a problem with the system. The charcoal canister could be clogged, the vent solenoid could be sticking, or both. (a damaged canister can clog up the entire system by filling it with little charcoal pellets in all the hoses and lines - common problem)
The fuel fill tube could also e partially collapsed. There are rubber hoses connecting all the parts that tend to deteriorate and they can close up as a result. A thorough inspection of your EVAP system should turn up the answer to your problem.
It may be common among 2002 Santa Fe's, but there is a fix, you shouldn't have to simply live with it.

Where is the heater core located on a 1999 F250 4x4 crew cab V10 Gas Super Duty? I was told under the hood and I have been told access is in the dash. Two very different costs to get fixed.....

Heater core is under the dash, the dash will have to be remove to replace the heater core, you will also need to have the a/c system recover, evac, and recharge if the system has freon, when this repair is done, this is about a 10 hrs. job.

Code large air leak (emmission light stays on)

You need the code
Then you find the problem in the EVAP System
An EVAP Smoke Machine, would have you making the repair in about 3 minutes.
So unless you can find a loose hose, broken fitting Etc,you need professional help.
Then the job is completed with a scanner to test system, I doubt your spending 8 thousand for that piece of test equip.
Now you know why cars cost a lot to fix.

whats a skid control???or do you mean the ABS ,if its the ABS then yes its lots of dosh(cash) no quick cut their as its part of the annual vehicle inspection, but if your stateside and only emmissions are checked so far then either ignore the lights by taking the bulbs out,or remove the unit completly and make some new brake pipes up.
