If you can get the car to start with a jump from another vehicle, then I'd drive it to the nearest place that can test the battery when you get the car started, or pull the battery and get it load tested. Likely your problems are with a bad cell within the battery and you just aren't getting the amps you need to start the car. It may read 12-14v, but can't put out the juice required to turn it over. The clicking is the lack of power..there's enough to cause relays to work, but just barely, which causes them to cycle on and off.

If you recently changed the battery make sure everything is connected the right way. After that it is most likely the fuel pump that needs replacing. It takes a while to start because it take it a while to get the fuel to the ignition.

Istalled new starter. vehical started and ran.

If the battery is boiling while engine is running, the alternator is over charging, the battery maybe bad now, this can cause the plates in the battery to fry, have the battery load tested on an electronic tester, not an analog ,cause it can blow up,make sure the battery cables are on the battery correctly,if this was any help,at all, please rate, and thank you,

Battery keeps going out on a 2005 ford focus wagon

have you replaced the battery? If not they do get bad cells, If you have? Do a voltage test on battery before you start it and after, Before should be 12.5 or close to tht, And running should be 14 or close to it, If not bad altenator, If both of those check out? Has the vehical got a stock stereo? Sometimes amps and subs kill a charging system, I`ll be waiting for your repost to continually try to help you. Good luck, Sam

There are usually three things that cause this problem. Either 1. your car is intermittenly having the power supply to the ignition interrupted, i.e., loose battery cable or ground, or ignition module, etc 2. your alternator is failing intermittenly, or 3. Your fuel pump is going out. The most common is the fuel pump, especially with your symptoms. The way you test, is, when it won't start, shoot a little fuel into the throttle body, and see if it hits and dies, or hits and keeps going, etc. These things are notoriously intermittent, and of course, you can only troubleshoot something when it's currently not working. As for the alternator, you'll usually have some other warning sign, such as a battery light, or failure of instruments, etc. As for the ignition module, it's more of a remote chance that I included as an option. Hope this helps you out.
