SOURCE: Noise under intake manifold

best thing to do is to take the intake and valve covers off, its possible you may have inadvertently sucked something up and it's in you intake. That is the best solution.

No telling what it is until you take things apart and take a look. It shouldn't be too hard, make sure you get new gaskets, gaskets are cheap anyways.

SOURCE: rattling from under hood starts when a/c is engaged or veh in idl

When the a/c is turned on it puts more of a load on the engine, and causes it to pull harder, which in turn, can cause some vibrations that are otherwise not present. It is possible that the a/c compressor is going out, but not likely if it is only 4 years old. I advise you to take a broom handle or something similar, about 2 to 3 ft long and touch the end of it to the a/c compressor when the rattling is occurring, at the same time, place your thumb over the other end of the pole and stick it to your ear. This is a really good listening device to help locate rattles and knocks. Be sure to put your thumb between the pole and your ear so you don't hurt your ear, and also be EXTREMELY careful not to get the pole caught in any of the moving parts. eg.... pulleys and belts. I have an idea that it might be a heat shield or clamp somewhere that has either loose or rubbing against something.

pcv valve should do that: that stops the ventilation)(when you put your finger on it), so the car dies.<p>
the balancers don't always go out; but with a weak cranshaft they will. I'd let someone else check your engine you trust.

There is a rattling noise when the car is idling. when I accelerate it quits.

there are two things that cause this, one is the front engine pulley comes apart, this is very loud and comes from passenger side of engine, the next is the catalytic converter heat shield is broken.

Rattling sound at idle speed

The rattling is a worn-out timing chain (rattling should be louder at one end of the engine). Get it changed now - they will eventually break, closely followed by your bank balance!

1994 Corolla rattles when idling and at low speeds.

It amazes me that they didn't at least address the rattling noise, seeing how they probably caused it. If it is just a belt, that's an easy fix. Did you stop at another shop & ask for a quick diagnosis?
Could be something as simple as a heat shield , or something. Doesn't hurt to have a second opinion, and shouldn't cost anything, or very little, then go back & tell them what the diagnosis was.

Rattle/Vibration from front of vehicle when idling at stop

Hi and welcome to FixYa. Please try this:
GO out to the car, and lift up on the hood. Does it raise a bit and rattle? If so;
Open the hood, and look at the perimeter of the front radiator support. You will see 2 small rubber thingys, that look like that they are screwed onto the metal that is holding the radiator. Unscrew them a little, and close the hood. Pull up on the hood and see if the rattle goes away. If not, repeat unscrewing the rubber things until the lift disappears.

A FixYa rating (4 blue diamonds) would be greatly appreciated for my assistance.
