Yes, however, most of the new inexpensive scan tools are designed for OBD2 cars (1996 or later). Don't give up hope though. Because of the age, many of the previously expensive but not up to date scanners are available for a song used. Start with ebay.
you have to remove cowl vent grille.disconnect the transmission link from the crank arm on the motor by prying it toward the rear of the vechicle.remove the motor mounting bolts and remove the motor.then put new fan motor back in visa versa.
I had the same problem with my 2002 Safari. The blower resistor/relay pack (mounted on the ductwork below the blower motor) in the engine compartment went bad- poor design. A replacement unit (about $120) is available from the dealer. Removal of the coolant overflow / WWasher bottle is required, as well as enlarging the the mounting opening.
