Question about 1992 Toyota Celica

1 Answer

I'm having trouble installing a radio in my 1992 toyota celica

From my own research I've gathered that....

blue w/ red stripe is the power/ACC
the brown is GROUND
other than that I'm pretty lost...I already cut my harness off because I really didn't want to find an adaptor for a my extremely rare cd player.

anyways here are the colors of my wires

red
blue
green
white
yellow
black
brown
blue w/ red stripe
white with green stripe
black w/ red stripe
red with silver spots
pink w/ green stripe
white w/ black stripe
green w/ silver spots

As of now I can't even get my radio to turn ON so any little help at all would be much appreciated

those diagrams you gave me are contradicting the wires that I actually have. To be fair I have read that some harnesses have a yellow and blue wire but my just doesn't have one for some odd reason.

  • tyler_delori May 12, 2009

is it possible that my harness could be after market? thats the only thing I have left outside of selling my car for one with a radio that works.

  • tyler_delori May 12, 2009

I'd never sell my baby don't worry :)
anyways I don't know what a test light is so if you could explain it to me that'd be great. and if the radio happens to be locked then I have no idea of how to unlock it. maybe you can make english out of the online manual

    here.....

Please don't sell the car it's not that tough to figure out, use a test light to find out what the two 12 volt leads are, one will light with the key off, the other only with the key on, the ground should be simple, also is it poss that the radio is locked out and needs the security code entered? this happens anytime the radio is disconnected from 12 volt power source.

this is the factory diagram for the radio, it is all there is.

Go to any auto parts store and ask for a 12 volt test light, it has a bulb inside and a pointed end like an ice pick, u attach one end to a good ground and then probe wires for power, when u have a hot wire with 12 volts the light in the handle will shine on. They cost about $6.00 at Kragen I think.

You have it right. Use a 12 volt test light to see if there is power between the gray and brown wires when the key is on. If there is power there, you may have got hold of a bad radio.

Need to know the wires to install a deck for 97

Red is power to from ignition to cd deck
Yellow is direct power from battery to cd deck to hold the memory.
Black is ground
Blue is only needed if you are hooking up an amplifier.
I always suggest buying a wire harness quick connect system for $5, then you won't have to cut origional car wiring. If by chance you are taking the original wire route, then go to installer.com to find which wires on the car are for what.
