This problem is caused by a defective fuel gauge sending unit in the fuel tank.

Yes u must drop the fuel tank out of the truck, be careful, there is a great risk of fire and explosion if u are not really careful, ground the tank with a wire to the truck, use a brass punch to remove the sending unit retaining ring on the outside of the tank

You have a short in the system. Check the wiring at the tank sender and back of the fuel gauge. If all is well than it may be the tank sender is hung up or just plan bad

Speedometer fuel guage

Probably replacing the speed sensor on the transmission.Have the codes read, even if the light is not on. Look at the pending codes. The fuel gauge would be the sending unit in the tank. That act funny like that sometimes.

My 1997 s10 truck fuel guage does not work

If it was working before , drop the tank again low enough to check your connections, if ok, remove the assembly out of the tank and inspect, with the unit out, hook the wiring back up, turn the key on and manually swing the float and have someone watch the gauge.

I have a 2004 pontiac montana. for about two years the fuel guage would fold over and read 125 degrees when the tank is full. it woulld stay there until tank was empty and the needle would drop to empty,...

It could be a bad fuel gauge in the dash unit, but....
Usually it's "The bad".
The fuel level sending wipe arm and windings on the fuel sender wear and send erratic readings. The only cure is a replacement fuel gauge sender.
The check engine light should not be related to the erratic fuel readings.
"The good".
If you have over 200,000kms or 120,000 miles on your van you need a new fuel pump anyway,so have a complete assembly put in which will have a new fuel sender on it.

Fuel guage doesnt work. ive tracked down all i can. Anyone got any suggestions. 1983 grand marquis 302 fuel inj

Open circuit - gauge will read full.Grounded circuit - the gauge will read empty. If it reads empty all the time - then the wire that goes to the sender is broken and/or grounded somewhere along its length to the fuel tank. run a jumper wire from bottom of the fuse box in the spot, all the way to top of sending unit on tank. disconnect old wire at both ends, and then turn on the key and observe guage. if not this, check guage itself for sticking.

The fuel gauge is'nt working.I tryed to ground it

When testing a fuel guage you should disconnect the wires to it,guage should read over full, ground the float wire, turn off key then turn back on should read empty. You have to cycle the key for guage to move.If still inop the wire is broken in the harness between the tank and the dash.Voltage on the float wire is low. When tested with a test light it will barely light the light and pulsate. This test indicates the wiring is good.

2 problems.1997 Chevy blazer, OBD2 and fuel gauge wont read

Problem number one. The circuit that powers up your data link connector (where you plug the code reader into) is the cigarette lighter fuse. Check that fuse to make sure it is not blown. Second problem: You more than likely need to replace your instrument panel cluster.
