2004 Honda Civic -Code P0122 Throttle Position Sensor Voltage Low

As I was driving home from work, the engine malfunction indicator lamp came on and the rpm became too high at low speeds. I pulled over and turned off the engine. After starting again the car seemed to run fine but the malfunction warning light stayed on. I took it to the honda dealer for diagnostics.

They told me that it is a code P0122 i.e. the throttle position sensor has low voltage. They have recommeded replacing the whole throttle body for full total of $850. I have been driving for two days now...and the warning light comes on and off....When the light comes on...the engine starts acting up again....and idles at high rpm at very low speeds...

Does the throttle body needs to replaced?

Thanks.

    this is a 2004 toyota tundra v-8 automatic

    i took the throttle body off, inspected it for holes,cleaned it with throttle body cleaner and re installed it. it still acts the same . the engine light is on and advanced auto said it had to do with the throttle body and or the h2o sensor.

    the car is a 2006 civic that runs well, but there is a distinct hesitation when the car is at idle and the gas peddle is depressed.the check engine light is on. advanced auto said the code was for the throttle body and or an oxygen sensor. i pulled the throttle body off looked for cracks or holes,cleaned with throttle body cleaner and reinstalled. i got the same results.

Yes, this is the case of a failed throttle body, in which case it needs replaced, the car is getting too much fuel causing the high idle. this needs replaced asap. you could proably find a small independant honda shop that could do the work for less.

Po 122 problem light on had changed sensor problem not fixed trans not shifting right horrible jurks when it shifts.

P0122 is TPS signal low, which could mean you have a bad TPS, or a fault in the wiring or connector. I suspect a bad Throttle Position Sensor.

Engine code p0122 keeps coming on

P0122 ACURA - Throttle Position Sensor 'A' Circuit Low Voltage.Possible causes- Faulty throttle position sensor.
- Throttle position sensor harness is open or shorted
- Throttle position sensor circuit poor electrical connection When is the code detected?An excessively low voltage from the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) is sent to Engine Control Module (ECM).

2004 - JEEP LIBERTY SPORT 3.7/V6 ENGINE LIGHT ON !!! CODE #(P0122) What is it ? Can I fix it ? Dealership fix only ?

P0122 Code - Throttle Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Low Input

A P0122 code means that the the car's computer has detected that the TPS (throttle position sensor) is reporting too low a voltage. On some vehicles that lower limit is 0.17 - 0.20 volts (V).

Did you adjust it when you installed it? If the signal value is less than .17V then the PCM sets this code. Could be an open or a short to ground in the signal circuit. Or you may have lost the 5Volt reference voltage.

Symptoms may include:
* Rough or low idle
* Stalling
* Surging
* No/little acceleration
* other symptoms may also be present

Causes: A code P0122 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
* TPS not mounted securely
* TPS circuit short to ground or another wire
* Faulty TPS
* Damaged computer (PCM)

Possible Solutions: Some recommended troubleshooting and repair steps are:
* Carefully check the throttle position sensor (TPS), wiring connector, and wiring for breaks, etc. Repair or replace as necessary
* Check the voltage at the TPS (refer to a service manual for your vehicle for specific information). If the voltage is too low that is indicative of a problem. Replace if necessary.
* If recently replaced the TPS may need to be adjusted. On some vehicles the installation instructions call for the TPS to be properly aligned or adjusted, consult a repair manual for specifics.
* If there are no symptoms at all, the problem may be intermittent and clearing the code may resolve the issue temporarily. If this is the case then you should definitely check the wiring to be sure it's not rubbing on anything, grounding, etc. The code may come back.

Hope helps (remember to rate this answer).

Check engine light came on trouble shooting code is P 0122

Code P0122 is a TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) sensor out of range.

The operating range of the TPS is about .5 to 4.8 volts. .5 at idle 2.5 at half throttle and 4.8 at full throttle.

This can be checked easily with a scanner. But can be checked with a multi-meter.
P0122 Tjrottle Position Sensor low voltage

You can try replacing it for a start and see what happens

My girlfriends car has just started with the same problem, a limp home from the garage, a sleep over night and als well next day, for a while... I spoke to Mitsubishi and they have told me the TPS (throttle positioning sensor) is on the accelorator pedle assembly. There PN for this is MN125791 and its circa £88 + VAT. After exhausting all other options I may attempt this replacement and will advise the results.
