Question about 1986 Lincoln Town Car

2 Answers

Where can I find instructions on how to replace the evaporator core in my 1986 Lincoln TC? I took it to a mechanic that told me it'll cost between 4-5 hundred and I don't have that so I'm going to get my home mechanic on. It's a recession. Where can I find instructions to do such a task?

I can tell you how to do it,But I need to know a few things first

  1. Do you know where it is located?
  2. Do you have a way to recover refrigerant?
  3. Do you have access to a A/C vacuum pump?
  4. What was the reason for them saying it was bad?(What was the system doing?)
  5. Are you mechanically inclined?(Just need to know how detailed the instructions need to be.

Fix leaking on passenger floror

After a heavy rain, I noticed about 2 inches of water on the rear passenger floorboards of my '02 Signature TC. The front was also soaked.

Try this link at Edmunds' forum - http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f147dda/0 - it discusses various leaks the town car has. A little way into the thread, it specifically discusses the leak on the passenger side. My leak was coming in through the foam gasket under the HVAC (air vent assembly). After reading the entire thread, I concluded my problem could be fixed by following Ralka's instructions on page three, reply #25. The whole repair took just over an hour - I'm not a mechanic, so if you're mechanically inclined, it would probably take less time. It fixed the problem.

PS - I also had to replace two plastic, rectangular cowl retainer clips (with plastic screws), they're made by Dorman (the 41099 cowl retainer fit perfectly, in spite of a link they have that says it's not made for the TC). If you also need to replace the clips, you can get them here - http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/search/?searchType=global&Ntt=cowel+retainer&N=0&submit=Submit+Query.

Good luck.

How do you replace the seat filter in a 2004 lincoln navigator

If you are having problems with the HID head lights it is probably the ballast and is located on the bottom of each light. New it cost $275 but can be found on e-bay used for about $100. The bulb cost about $110. Be careful with bulb as you cannot touch the glass part. Oil from your hand will cause it to explode when it gets hot. I was told it was bulb. Then I was told it was light switch. Then they told me it was fuse box and would cost about $3,000 to replace. I found out it had ballast and they are not part of the bulb like the auto part store said. Took ballast from left side and put it on right side and light worked. I spent a total of $500 to fix a $100 problem. Ballast are good for only 3,000 hours so you take a chance buying one that is used.

A couple days ago i had my fuel tank replaced. since i got it back my fuel guage in my car does not work. i had to bring my 1998 lincoln towncar back and they told me they put a part in upside down. i took...

if this only started after the shop replaced the tank then they are on the hook to repair the problem as it wasn`t there before they did the job and should not charge you for it.they may need to check the wiring(power and ground)at the tank as disturbing it could have caused the problem.

When i crank my car it sometimes idle high.so i took it to my local express oil got the engine light checked and the mechanic told me it is just an oxygen sensor code nothing to worry about, but i think...

First, your "Express oil Jockey" is a ****. Your 02 sensors monitor catalyst and converter operation. If it's wearing out (and they do w/mileage) they alter your cars' computer to compensate - usually in the form of using more fuel. Have a REAL shop look at it and more than likely you'll be replacing an 02 sensor or 2 (there's 2)

Dash removal 1996 lincoln tc

Most likely they ( the Ford dealer) cracked the heater core when they pulled the dash to fix the other problem, I worked as a Ford dealer tech for 20 years and this is entirely possible.

For poster markjschwab, the noise is the blend door motor, so your dash will need to be removed to fix that issue, be careful of the heater core or just replace it while the dash is out, they are cheap.
