Question about 2002 Ford Escort

1 Answer

Where's the fuel cycle valve?

My '02 Escort just stalled out and wont restart. It came close but sounded very rough and died quickly. It had been very close to running out of fuel and I had just put in more right about a half mile before it stalled. My roommate seems to think that sediment from the gas tank may be blocking fuel from getting through the filter to the engine. She mentioned a valve that would cause the fuel system to cycle and might help with the problem. Any advice on where that valve is and does that sound like a reasonable idea as to why the car wont run?

If the problem is not a vac leak, it could be the idle circuit inside the carb. You may have to replace or rebuild the carb to fix it.

1992 acura integra wont stay running

Try the procedure below.

Here are the most common causes of idle surge, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake

I have a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2 that we just bought. Had to change the head gasket. It started and ran just fine for a few minutes and then died. It starts and idles very rough then dies as if it...

recheck your cam timing belt, sounds like it jumped on you. PCV valves generally plug into the valve cover and you would have had to seen it when you pulled the head. not all cars have them

Engine would not accelerate, now wont start

Sounds like the fuel pump went. Check for power under the van at the gas tank for the fuel pump. You need 2 people to do this, the pump will only power up for 5 secs/key cycle unless the engine is running.

Check the idle air control valve. This sounds like it is not working right. it controls how much air the engine gets when it is idling. the pcm tells it to open more or close. they get old and dont respond fast enuf.

Good luck
