My 1990 senson/switch is actually in the lower rad. hose just behind the rad. It's hard to see from up top. They have a metal pipe in in the hose as if the hose was cut and the metal pipe with a bung is installed.
Weird, but that's where it is....

It's a large brass fitting in the left or right of the radiator itself it will have a 2 pin connector on it . Think the nut is 28 or 30 mm

Low heat on buick rendezvious

Ask to see a water pump for your car at an autoparts store like Autozone or Advance. This may be a model with a relief valve inside the waterpump. If your car is one of the rare ones with this part, it may be stuck open on your car.

Also have someone check the Electric Radiator cooling fan Relay. Sometimes it can stick to run full on when it should be off. This would be a simple fix. There are also sensors which activate the Electric Radiator cooling fan Relay. If the sensor is telling the engine to cool itself too early, then the fan would activate too soon.

You can get FREE diagrams at Autozone.com and see which Relay is in the powerbox and which is by the electric Radiator fan. Then you could simply replace the relay. But the sensor, if bad, would still tell the Relay the wrong information. It would need to be replaced, perhaps instead of the Relay.

If the car seems to be have some drivibility issues in cold weather, then the temperature sensor may be failing to tell the engine that it is cold and not hot. The sensor can be stuck on the hot settings, making the electric Radiator fan work and failing to control the engine for cold conditions.

Where is the fan temperature sensor located

actually, the ECM directing the sensor to actuate the switches. the engine thermostat is the actuator of the fans in the cooling system. and its located in the oulet port of the engine where the upper radiator hose is connected. (and or at the lower rad hose, some design on VWs).

My car is overheating

Hello, You did not indicate what vehicle this is. But in general, most cars have 2 water sensors. One makes the dash gauge work and the other makes the Electric radiator fan work. Check with a good Autoparts store like Autozone, Oreilys, or Advance for parts application. These stores will also scan your vehicle for free.
When you have an Electric cooling fan there are usually 2 speeds on them. When the engine is really hot(Overheating) and when the A/C is switched on, most will run on High speed. You can sometimes have only low speed and the car will be Okay until you get in slow traffic or use the A/C. There are Relays for the fan which turn on when the water sensor(remember there are usually two)activates them.
These are things to test. If the water temp sensor is working, if the relay for the cooling fan is working, or if the cooling fan motor is bad. Check the fuse panel for a blown fuse, but that only means there really is a problem that has to be fixed. It is the reason the fuse failed.

There is another type of cooling fan that has a "clutch" on it. It may be used in combination with an Electric cooling fan. The clutch is fluid filled and responds to air temperature. It is suppose to work really good in hot weather and coast(free-wheel) in cold weather.

Finally, clogged Catalytic converters can cause your problem. Your engine can build up heat because of them, but usually some kind of "Check" light will activate telling you something is wrong.

When you post a problem, remember to give the type of car you have.
