2003 Kia Sorrento - Possible Bad Fuel Pump?

Over the last few weeks I've been experiencing what felt like a surge or a lack of gas to the engine when accellerating, kind of like a bog. The problem wasn't consistent so I couldn't show my husband exactly what it was doing. He's a mechanic but works on heavy duty semis, not cars. Anyway, when I'd have one of these bogs, the engine light would go on and then the car would die after a minute or two. It would start after you turned the car off and re started it again. Yesterday on the expressway the same thing happened and the car wouldn't start again so we had it towed. My husband suspects the fuel pump needs to be replaced. Can anyone shed some light on how hard it is to replace the fuel pump in the Sorrento? He's going to do it himself, he just wondered if anyone had done it before.

2011 KIA Sorrento 2.4 were is the fuel pressure regulator located. put on adjustable fuel reg .need to disconnect stock one

fuel pressure regulators are normally located in the fuel manifold. They are either vacuum controlled or electronic controlled to maintain the right fuel pressure for engine requirements and to shut off the fuel pump when the ignition is turned off
If your manually adjusted unit will not do all that then you are asking for fault codes to appear and all sorts of problems to occur

Please check the following:
- Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor (MAP) or MAF.
- Fuel injector's connectors and wiring.
- Ignition coil's connectors and wiring.
- Vacuum hoses and pipes.
- PCV Valve.
- Spark plugs for any cracks on the insulators.
- Spark plugs gaps.
- Fuel pump pressure.
- Engine Coolant Temperature sensor.
- Cam position sensor.
- Crankshaft position sensor.
- Valve timing.

I have a 2003 Kia Sorrento and I just replaced my water pump and now as long as its cold it will run fine but once it warms up it back fires and wants to die. What could be causing this.

I would check the coolant temperature sensor. This tells the ECM what the coolant temp is. The ECM uses this to adjust the fuel rate and engine timing when the engine is cold. If the sensor isn't letting the engine know that the engine is warming up properly, then the engine will continue to get too much fuel and the timing will not be optimal. This can cause poor fuel economy, engine flooding issues, and possibly backfiring.

Fuel pump replacement on a 2003 kia sorrento

Remove negative battery terminal, release tank pressure by opening gas cap, remove the rear seat, you will see a cover, remove the cover, you will now see the top of the gas tank and also the pump, the pump is located inside the tank and can be removed from the top, next remove the connector from pump, remove the lines, note : cover lines with a rag as you remove there may be a little pressure, this will help gas from spray all over, with connector removed and lines removed you will now remove the six bolts holding the pump in, lift and remove the pump, take note of the position, make a ref mark so you can reinstall pump in top of tank facing the right way. this is called a fuel pump module, here is a picture of the pump unit.10_6_2012_2_55_35_pm.jpg

My Kia Sorrento 2003 sometimes my gas light will come on even if theres a full tank of gas.I have watched the needle go down to empty but I know theres gas.

This is the float assembly in the fuel tank. This unit houses the fuel pump and should be able to be accessed under the rear seat. Auto zone has the assemblies for about $270 and comes with the new fuel pump encasedc inside. This will be the only way they can be purchased and should only take about 20 minutes to change. Very easy to do and this assembly will fix the issue. Save the old pump though as if a failure occurs in the future, you will have a pump to use that is good. Let me know if you need instructions for the repair.

For Kia Sorento 2003-2005 the fuel filter is located inside the fuel tank and is replaced with the fuel pump as an assembly.

I am having the same problems with 2003 Kia Sedona

Drop the fuel tank and replace the fuel pump. Filter is attached to the fuel pump. Sounds like the fuel pump is failing.
