It might be. You need power to the shifter interlock solenoid in order for it to operate. Most vehicles have a manual overide if you need to get the trans out of park inorder to move the vehicle.

My 96 toyota camry will not go in any gears and i never had any signs of slipping

Assuming the shifter cable is connected to the trans, its probably something inside the transaxle which is beyond most DIY.
If the shifter won't move out of park it could be the brake light switch or the lock actuator in the console.

What does it mean when the "Hold" indicator light comes up?

Hi, the hold light refers to the hold button on the shifter module. It means the transmission holds the lower gear revving up the rpms and won't shift to the higher gear. Seeing the light means the button has been engaged. Push it to turn it off.........

My son press some of the buttons and it displays "O/D OFF". please tell me how to turn on O/D. Early response would highly appreciated. REgards Jacob Francis

Hello, welcome to FixYa. Please allow us to assist you.

The OD OFF light has been turned on via the small square button on the side of the shifter handle. This button should normally be in the 'depressed' position, which allows the OD to engage. The OD OFF light is illuminated on the inst panel to alert you that the OD has been manually disengeged. The OD is the final shift of the transmission, thusly giving you maximum fuel mileage.

To rectify this, press the button on the side fo the shifter handle.

My new duplicated key screwed up my gears!

When you say "Push the button", I am assuming that you are talking about the button in front of the shifter, yes?

If so, the problem that you have is a "shift interlock" problem.

Try this. Start the car, and have someone stand at the back of the car. Push the brake pedal.
Ask them if the brake lights come on. If not, you have a bad brake lamp fuse, or a bad brake lamp switch above the brake pedal. The brake light circuit ALSO puts power to the shifter interlock so you can take it out of park. No power to the shifter interlock; you will need to push the button. Doubt that the duplicate key has anything to do with this.
Hope this helps. Please consider good feedback for this solution.
