It sounds like your over-drive is going out. Have you serviced the transmission lately? I would highly recommend also having the gov. pressure solenoid screen cleaned and as with most all Dodges, I recommend installing a inline filter in the pressure line going to the cooler. It will prolong the life of your transmission.

It's not hard to do and most any parts store can order you 1, the small inline filter looks like a metal fuel filter, cut the metal line going to the cooler, add some rubber trans. hose and filter. but only AFTER having your transmission serviced! Whoever services your transmission have them inspect the pan well, if you have a lot of metal in the pan, you will more than likely be looking at replacing your transmission in the very near future. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: truck shifts out of gear at 50 to 60 miles an hour

check the tps ( throttle position sensor ). a bad tps causes transmission shift issues, bucking, jerking, idle surging, engine cutoff, hesitation on take off, surge while cruising down highway. am not saying this does the trick, but it is a good starting point. good-day !

99 silverado will not shift into overdrive

have a 1998 K3500 silverado 4x4 with 454 motor and 4L80E transmission. I can not get over 55 or 60 mph. At that speed the transmission down shifts from 4th (OD) to 3rd. The speedometer also drifts from about 50 to 65. If I try to speed up it will down shift to 3rd. I have replaced the VSS on the trasfer case. Is there another speed sensor somewhere? Or could it be the TPS? The truck drives and shift normal up to this point. where should i look next. thanks

It could be your shift solenoids. If they arent working properly your lockup clutch will engage and disengage. They are easy to change.

Your transmission fluid contain water, thats why the colour of the fluid changed to pink. And of such the clutch is slipping causing the engine to reve up before shifting - Check transmission cooler.
