Oil light fickers or stays solid when braking

I have a 2004 dodge Stratus ES 6 cyc and I get an oil light after the car warms up and it only happens when I stop. We have replaced oil pressure switch as it was leaking and the diagnostics at the dealership pointed to the switch but i still have the problem.

I found over 400 people with the same problem the dealership has replaced the oil sending unit, the oil pressure switch (it was leaking like a sive) according to the dealership the pressure is fine the engine is running fine. No drop off when the light comes on, the light flickers or stays on and goes off when you give it gas. I dont want to pay them as they tried to overcharge me on the switch and the sending unit. In the cold weather the car is fine no light, went all winter without the light the warm weather hits and there it is. I ask what is next and the service manager just scratches his head. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Have your actual oil pressure checked with an external gauge...It could actually have a pressure problem.

how many miles does it have?

sometimes low oil pressure is involved with a lot of causes.....

wrong oil.....clogged oil pick up screen....clogged oil passages.....and soo on......

i think that you might get the warming becasue as you slow down the engines RPMs drop too thus the engine is not generating enough pressure.........

sometimes if the pressure get real low...or does not rise after a couple of seconds the engine could seize.....gone forever....

I had the same problem on a 2002 Stratus. I also had a Diagnostics Code of P0455(EVAP leak). I replaced the gas cap and this fixed the problem. I don't know what EVAP leak had to do with the oil pressure light coming on, but the new gas cap fixed it.

If the car has a faulty oil pump I would check the dealer for a recall. Ask for the service department. they can help you. You might get it done for free. Have your VIN number ready, they will need it. And you are right oil pumps rarely go out.

This same thing happened to me it was the oil sending unit that needed to be replaced. It's an easy fix but you have to take off the heat shield to get to it.

2004 dodge stratus oil light started coming on when I slowed down or cam to a stop and then would turn off when I started driving again. Now it stays on al the time

You need to have that chk'd out. Even low oil pressure can damage the engine let alone no oil pressure. Ck your oil level. It is a serious issue to have that light on. Good Luck, _Ned_

Where is the oil pressure sending unit on 2004 Dodge stratus

Most likely the oil pressure switch may be damaged. This is a simple procedure. Change and observe the results

1998 dodge stratus oil lamp

Check the engine oil level in your engine. If you also get the oil light coming on when making a hard corner along with when you brake sometime, it might be that the oil is just a bit lower than it should be and the movement (sloshing) of the oil in the oil pan might cause the oil pickup in the engine to be starved for oil for a few seconds.
