Question about Chrysler Cirrus

Motor sometimes dies when I stop at a stop sign or light, and won't start again right away. It will start again after 15 or 20 minutes.

Replacing the fuel pump might work, but I would like some other suggestions. Did anyone solve the same problem by doing something different? I would to know as many possible causes of this problem as I can reasonably obtain.

  • pyoung621 May 12, 2009

The first suggestion that I received was to replace the fuel pump, but before I do that I would like to Know if there are any other suggestions.

  • pyoung621 May 12, 2009

I don't think moisture in the engine caused the problem in my case.

  • pyoung621 May 12, 2009

This most recent solution sounds reasonable, and it might work. I would feel more comfortable if another expert agreed with this solution and made any additional comments, if they have any. In short, I would appreciate a "second opinion".

  • pyoung621 May 12, 2009

I don't know if the solution is successful or not, because I haven't tried it yet. I'm going to try it. If it doesn't work, I'm not going to try anything else. I'll get rid of this chrysler and buy a toyota.

The very 1st thing u do in a case like this is have the Powertrain control module checked for trouble codes in memory, also check the fuel pressure, then i would also suggest u do the following, it is a procedure I have used over the last 20 years for these types of stalling issues. Do not replace any parts until u have the trouble code test done.

Here are some of the causes of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake

Check the car to see if there is any water leaking on the cars parts, make shure no moisture has gone in the engine.

When my motor start getting hot it stop and I can started right away but stop again soon as I put it in gear coud't be the coil

Yes, that is very typical of a bad coil, but to be sure, test for spark, when the engine has died.

My car keeps stalling everytime I stop or slow down but starts up straight away after it has stalled?

The vacuum hoses have probably started cracking at the turns. If there has been any under the hood work done, sometimes things get pushed on or moved and the rubber hoses on the vacuum system will get old and crusty and crack. That cause the car to die when it slows down to an idle, like at a stop sign or stop light. then it starts and runs normal until the next stop sign.

Check your battery terminal's, check woltage when engine is off on your battery, check voltage when running. Could be alternator, battery ior something wrong with charging system.
