no. i now have no power of any kind (not even auto lock). by now i'm sure the battery is dead. it's almost like there's a short. i should mention i recently had the dealership replace a coil asy - ignition. could this factor into it?

you need to measure your battery voltage with a meter, then try to jump the car off, disconnect the jumper cables and measure the battery voltage again. While running the battery voltage should be between 13.5 volts to 14.5 volts, this reading means that the altenator is working and charging your battery. If you hook up the jumper cables and you get no power at all inside the car, you need to check your fuseable link connection at the battery positive connection. I do not think that the dealer work is related to your problem directly, they may have disconnected your battery to perform the maintenance and mybe did not hook up all of the required wires when done, so check all the cables on the battery for connection and tightness. Let me know what you find....

My 1997 chrysler town and country van was running fine until this afternoon. After I stopped and pulled the key out I heard a clicking sound under the hood (around the fuse box). Since then it won't start....

It is highly possible that battery is just dead. This also happened to me on my 97 Jeep Cherokee. I started it in the morning with no issue what so ever, then when i went to go start it again a short while later it was the same issue your having. I tried to jumpstart it and nothing. The clicking noise your hearing is from the starter itself which is perfectly normal when you have a dead battery. That is why your lights dim when you try to start it. It is because when your trying to turn over the starter your having a power drain from whatever is left in the almost dead battery but it doesn't have enough power to turn the starter. Also that is why when you tried to jumpstart it and it didn't work, the battery is just too dead to accept the charge passing through it. Replace the battery and all will be fine. A good name brand battery costs roughly $70-$100 depending on the brand of the battery. I personally have had nothing but good luck with Duralast and Interstate batteries. Good luck. Happy motoring.

Car won't start not the battery

Test the neutral safety switch but doing the following steps.

1)foot on brake
2)turn key to on position
3)shift lever to neutral (N)
4)start the engine
5)shift the lever to Park (P)

If the engine can start at N and not at park then it's the neutral safety switch.
