Question about 2004 BMW 5 Series

2 Answers

The lights will come on an the battery is indicating a full charge but my 2004 535i BMW will not start. It will not make any sounds when I turn the key to the start position. The other day it was slow about starting as if the battery was going down. What could be the problem?

I would clean and check all the connections at the battery and starter especially.

Try giving this vehicle a boost first to make sure that its getting enough power. if it still doesn't start then it could be a few things First if its an automatic car make sure it fully in park, with ignition on and foot on the brakes move shift from park all the way down and put back in park, if that doesn'r work put in neutral and try to start. (If its a stick shift make sure clutch is full engaged before starting). Ok if this doesn't work then check for power at starer when key is turned you will need a test light or a (test probe for this) The wire going to the starter solenoid should have power when you are in the crank position, if it does and the starter doesn't work then you need a new starter. If it doesn't have power you may have a bad ignition switch or a bad neutral safety switch. (this is on the transmission its a safety switch that prevents the vehicle from starting in D-R- 1-2-3, it will only start in park or neutral. Last but noty least if this vehcile has a after market alarm system make sur ethat is turning off if NOT sure turn ignition to the ON position and flip valet switch to turn system OFF. (led light in car should saty on steady, not flashing when in valet mode)Good luck and contact if you need more help. Thanks for using FIX YA

Have the battery load tested. it dosen't take much power to operate lights and under load, the battery may have enough volts but not enough amps to turn the starter. If battery checks good with load test, check the starter for excessive draw and check all connections at battery, starter and block ground.

Getting my bmw f 650 sg ready for the road after winter, charged the battery and installed it but when I turn the ignition on I get a sickly buzzing sound, but the motor will not turn over

probably your battery cant take a full charge or has a few cells not working hook up another car so you can use jumper leads to start your car ( I am sure someone you know has them ?) that way you can get your car running etc but it is still possible that your battery can not take a full charge or is faulty under load , and should be easy to answer this question after you start it and give it a good run for a hour or two , and park it over night , if it makes the ticking sound ( this is a normal flat battery noise)when you try to start it the next day and it will not turn over the motor your battery is stuffed

I have a 1996 BMW 750 IL The battery is at full charge but when I turn the key to start there is nothing – lights are on seatbelt indicator on but no power to the starter can you help me with this

Turn on your headlights and try to start the car. If the headlights go from bright to dim or off , then the battery or it's connections are bad, or loose or corroded.
If the headlights stay bright, then the problem is likely the starter or it's connections.
Hope this helps.

If your battery is dead enough, even the dead battery indicator won't light. Take the battery to an autoparts store for a bench test/charge first before trying anything else.

1.check the charge in the battery because for starting the car you require full battery the other components can work with little charge itself.

try changing the battery or recharging the battery

1996 BMW 328 IC Convertible Altenator ok but not charging battery

Sounds like the alternator may be missing an excitation current source.
Check the 'IGN' dash indicator lights when you turn ignition switch on prior to starting motor,
if not one of the below may be problem:-
1) check exiter control wire is connected to alternator D+ terminal (low current wire, +V with Ign on),
2) replace dash 'IGN' indicator lamp.
