A misfire can be cause by several factors. here are a list of things to check check spark plug on that cylinder and check coil and wiring for coil. check cylinder compression on all cylinders if one cylinder is less than 10 psi different from the others that can cause a miss, last but not least check injector pulse using a noid light for injector pulse if pulse is good then injector is bad replace and that should solve your problem. Good luck and contact if you need more help. Thanks for using FIX YA

I also have been dealing with the P0301 and P0316 codes on my 2003 Ford Taurus. I replaced the engine coil pack and the engine light cleared and went on again once I drove it for a few days. It now is on again and has trouble getting up hills and running rough and the RPMs are running high (especially up hill) I put some gas in and the fuel went down at a startling rate. I dont know what to do at this point. Or what it could be. Auto Zone said it is safe to drive but will just eat up the gas real quick, I feel that it could cause the car damage if I drive it , and I cant drive it up hill only at a slow speed. Any ideas?

I would first change the spark plugs and then the spark plug wires.

02 ford windstar sometimes it chuggs going down the road changed the master air flow housing and sensor also changed the fuel filter what other reasons would it still be running rough???

CEL glows running?
scan codes stored, use a scan tool ,
chuggs. my guess this is misfire.?
misfire code is P0300 (random) either stored or in pendings
misfire has many reasons.
1 cylinder is like P0301 #1 misfire.
P0300 all cylinder, so not knowing what codes is stored, makes diagnoses, endless.
also does it misfire hot or cold engine or both
going down the road, flat, hills, steady cruise, fast right foot only.?
just a hint of when, and how.? WOT up hills> (wide open throttle)

misfire is under BASICS.
1`; poor compression on hot motor? if fails hot.
2: bad spark ever consider doing the 60k mile listed tune up? if not why not? all steps. not just 1 filter.
3: bad fueling.
4: stuck open EGR (covered under 60k, clean it.)

there are tests for each fail point. above.

use a scan tool, no scan tool the job is 100 times harder.

I have a 2003 chevy impala 3.4 liter misfire # 1 cyliner runs rough lacks power & has a knocking/tapping noise. Replaced plugs & wires # 1 cylinder has good spark, what eles coul it be?

I have an 01 impala 3800. After 2 months of searching for the source of the misfire that was causing my car to surge, stall, and generally not run well; I rebuilt my ******, because it needed it, and in hopes of finding out something more. Well, when I put everything back together I stumbled on to a fuel leak on the rear fuel rail fuel supply line connector. In the process of trying to figure out what the problem was I've been through many, many forums and a hellava lot of people have had the same problem and racked their brains and spent thousands of dollars. Long story short, I replace the connector with a $20 kit, right off the shelf of the local parts store, and the problem is fixed.

i HAVE BEEN GETTING THE PO316 CODE FOR THE LAST 3 MONTHS. I HAVE FOUND 7 OTHER LINCOLN AVIATOR OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. BETWEEN THE RANGE OF 40-60 THE TRUCK STUTTERS, STAULS AND RUNS EXTREMELY ROUGH. WE ALL HAVE LAREADY CHANGED THE COILS, COIL PACKS, SPARK PLUGS, FUEL FILTER, THROTTLE SENSOR, CAM SENSOR, CRANK SENSOR AND ARE LEFT WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE ALSO HAD 3 LOCAL MECHANIC SHOPS RUN 1 HOUR DIAGNOSTICS ON THE TRUCK AS WELL AS A PERSONAL MECHANIC AND THE PO316 MISFIRE CODE IS VERY VAGUE. IF ANYONE HAS A RESOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

04 mazda 3s 2.3l. the emgine misfires randomly but frequently. does have power loss and poor gas mileage. there is no check engine light and had recent sparkplug change with motorcraft platnums and oil...

I have changed plugs using the platinum plugs and the problem don't go away. These plugs can make a car run worse in some cases. I have found it best to use the OEM or a step above on 4 cylin and 6 cylin engines. The Plats work fine in 8 cylin engines. You could also have a bad plug wire. The plug wire could be jumping spark. At night, open the hood, start the car with lights off. Look around the plug wires for sparks jumping. If a wire is bad, the spark is leaving the wire and grounding itself to the nearest metal causing rough engine idle and misfire.

Runs rough at start up,then runs okay, Hesitiates momentarily when moving from a stopped position. Occasionally wont start and runs rough, then runs okay. This problem is intermittent

you have a bad injector, if you have A... as it states on the top of the motor 2.8, 3.1 L MULTI PORT and dies or idles really rough and the exhaust smells like strong gas. most likely you have an injector that has shorted or is shorting out and from my experiences usually after a road trip or using fuel injector cleaner or buying a used car. it will cause half the motor to not run or run poorly VERY POORLY or even burn out 1 injector fuse out of 2 under hard acceleration or idles but as soon as you touch the gas pedal dies. but only if it is a MULTI PORT fuel injected motor. ive heard you want to try and replace them with bosch injectors out of a 2.9l ford bronco/ranger. only attempt if you got the mechanical know how sometimes if not done right will leak gas because of the injectors being kinda different length. research before attempting.

Sounds like a bad fuel injector. Shop would need to run a contribution test to confirm. I must say, good detective work, good luck.
