Question about 1989 Isuzu Pickup 2WD

1 Answer

Will not start or stay running

I have a 1989 Isuzu pickup 2.3 and I will not start or stay running. I will only start if I poor a little gas into the Carb (which is brand new). When I poor the fuel into the Carb it starts right up, but them dies. It seems like the Carb is not getting any fuel. So I am going to check and see if fuel comes out of the fuel side of the filter when I disconnect it and turn the key over. If fuel does not come out of there it would have to be the fuel pump right? Has any one had this prob?

its under the manafold i though it was in the fuel tank...

sure...just change the fuel pump and magically the filter (if plugged) will be OK... Check the filter FIRST, if it is OK, then go after the pump!!! You were going in the right direction...keep going that way!!

sounds like you are going in the right direction!

Go ahead and put a fuel pump on it. If you remove the right front wheel you will be able to get to it. Since it is under the manifold. Be sure it has fuel in the tank and not a faulty gage.

Yes, you have mechanical fuel pump. Follow the line back to the filter and replace it if have not already done that. When you put a new carburetor on you always put a new fuel filter on before starting.

I\'d try 2 things. One, some, or many, motors and fuel pumps, even electric ones, need to be "primed".
You might try to figure out how to suck the fuel from the tank up to the motor somehow.
I do not necessarily mean using your mouth.
You could also take a rag and an air hose, and GENTLY blow air into the gas tank to "prime" the system.
Another thing is, is there some part of the engine where gasoline could have congealed or turned to gummy deposits preventing the gas flow?
This is why they suggest mowers and generators be run until they run out of gas before storage, to prevent gummy deposits caused by evaporated gas.
Be blessed.

The gas in the tank actually provides cooling to your fuel pump.My best guess is that you ran low on fuel and the pump (which could have been marginal) has had it due to overheating. You will have to get the fuel system pressure checked to be sure or remove the main fuel line and see if fuel comes out.Have a bucket ready just in case.Good luck
