The axle may seem fine but you more than likey bent the stub axle when you hit, they are easily changeable but without looking at the car could not tell exactly, what were the readings on the alignment, if it was too far out ie. more than 2' the guy doing the alignment should have alerted you to a problem, also if the stub axle housing is not bent (which you wont see with the naked eye unless its real bad), could be lower control arm, or even chassi mount bent? technically take it to a decent independant tyre shop not beuarepairs if you know what i mean and they should be able to tell exactly what needs replacing

You have probably bent the axle or knocked the rear alignment out. ( bent control arms). If independent suspension have the control arms checked and replaced then have a rear wheel alignment done.

How to remove a rear axle on a 98 Chevy K1500 truck

first up jack up the vehicle and remove the damaged wheel
fit the spare tire and then place an indicator ( rod on a brick ) close to the rim of the spare and turn the wheel
if the axle of hub is bent you will see the rim get closer then further away from the indicator as you turn the wheel
if it is , replace the axle and bearings
if not there will be no axle damage but the bearing could be "brinnelled "( a bearing term where the balls or rollers have been imprinted into the race from impact) in which bearing failure will become evident in 10-20,000 miles
next step is to go and get a rear end wheel alignment done as there could be suspension damage that will cause handling and tire wear problems

The driver rear tire wables when driving

I assume that the wobble is side to side and not up and down. The most benign cause of wheel wobble is a bent tire rim; but since you've tried another wheel and still get the wobble, the cause could be a bent housing, bad bearing, a number of things. In any case, if you don't get it fixed, a castastrophic failure is likely to happen. The rear axle is semi-floating; the axle and wheel are held on only by the pressed-on bearing and a small circlip. See a mechanic ASAP.

How do i know my axle is bad or not

Well if it makes a thumping noise when you drive it is bent. If you hit something hard like a curb it could very well be out of alignment. If you notice the car seems to also go up and down while you drive it probably has a bent axle. Dangers of a bent axle are that it can superheat and break and cause a lot more damage and you might injure yourself. It's probably not a bent axle if you pulls or lists to the side. That is caused by poor wheel and tire alignment.

Hydro planed and rear wheel hit curb, bent in 45 degrees

on rear wheel drive the hub and bearing assembly is connected to an axle.the axle will have to be replaced more than likely.in a front wheel drive with independent rear suspension,an upper and or lower control arm and hub.either way is expensive and your insurance deductible will be alot cheaper than the 2500 to 3000 dollars it will take to repair it.

Bent right rear RH axle 2001 prerunner 2wd.

Hello, and welcome to FixYa. Let me assist you as follows:
Removing the rear axle shaft is realy quite easy.
Her is what you need to do:

Remove the wheel/tire.
Remove the rear brake drum.
Remove the brake line to the rear wheel cylinder and plug the line.
Remove the park brake cable.
Remove the entire rear backing plate assembly; no need to remove the rear shoes.
When the backing plate is off, the axle shaft slides out of the axle housing; there are no "C" clips to remove, like on a Chevrolet. The axle is not held at the differential in any fashion.
Note that if you replace the axle shaft, you will need a machine shop to press the wheel bearings & seals onto the new shaft.

If you have any further questions; please feel free to respond.

Thanks for choosing FixYa for assistance; the graciousness of a FixYa rating for my instructions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I think I have an allignment problem

I think your best bet here would be to take your car into a Midas or any other reputable brake shop and have your vehicle check out. These places will do the checks for free and then when you get the estimate you can take it home and call a few places or grab some parts and fix the problem yourself. This will take all the guesswork out of your problem for free. Thanks for using fixya.

Sincerely,

JC

put on your spare doughnut tire and see if it's bent to .. if it is then you bent the axle not the rim.
