Question about 2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT

1 Answer

2000 grand am gt wont start

Whats not wrong with this car it started with the multifunction switch problem then the abs wires on the passenger front tire somehow got worn and pulled out now the car wont start at all i turn the key to the on position and all the lights on the dash start flashing i can hear the fuel pump wind up but there is also a clicking that sounds like the starter is engaging and disengaging continuously when i turn the key to start it turns over very slowly once or twice, turn off and repeat and it gradually starts to crank a little faster the other day it actually started i let it run for a little while idle thought maybe the battery was just weak so turned it off and tried to start again nada did the same thing but now wont start at all. any ideas b4 i start throwing parts at this piece of junk?

sounds like bad battery, as for the blinker\haz click its the multifunction switch open it and clean the grease off the contacts and regrease the switch is easy to remove take top off steering column there is 1 screw holding it in unplug the wire connectors there are 6 or 7 screws holding the switch together once u get it out dont lose the spring the grease on the contacts gets filled with particles from the copper contacts rubbing u should be able to see what im talking about the rest of the grease is green or clear where the blinker contacts it will look dirty wipe off regrease and reassemble no more click

Tried charging the battery and checking that it holds up to a load test? Sounds like it was marginal and while working on it, likely the door was open for a long time...if marginal, it may have been pushed over the edge.

yes the gauges should go up and down they are selftesting your starting problem could be starter related they were having problems with those, also try turning ignition to the on position for 3 seconds before trying to start, also gm has a tsb for hard start issues

Sounds like your battery is on the way out. Have a load test done on battery & voltage check on alternator. If all works well once it starts, I'd bet on the battery, but load test will confirm, which they will do for free usually if your buying the battery from them.

What is the correct placement for plug wirs on a 1999 pontiac grand am se 6 cylinder. i just cahnged the spark plugs but when i sit at a light in drive it jerks. what could be the problem.

If the wires were connected incorrectly the idling would be very rough while sitting. The very front of the engine starting at the passenger side is 1,3,5
The side toward the firewall is 2,4,6
Start from the passenger side on all numbers above. HINT....Also the intake has the firing number by each cylinder

I ran into a truck and damaged the front passenger side of my car. the day after i hit him the ABS and park brake light came on on the dash. later that night the car would not start. i have been told it...

i dont know how heavy was the hit but sound like you have to check your front end including brakes and drive train for damages. check your coolant level you may damaged the radiator. ecm behind the driver side fog light remove the splash guard driver side to reach it.

The ABS light and Trac off light is on, what's wrong?

There are sensors mounted behind the front wheels. Look for two small wires, running in plastic line protectors, behind each of the front wheels. There is a small connector plug that attaches to the sensors. These can get dirty and cause the problem you have. Cleaning them and using a dielectric grease might solve the problem. I have seen these get unplugged when brakes get worked on or even, on occasion, when tires get changed.

I have also seen the wires get torn apart along the undercarriage. You might want to follow them back to the main harness looking for damage.

In both circumstances you are going to want to get the car up in the air, with the tires removed and on sturdy jack stands. So you can get a clear view and have room to make any needed repair. You don't want to do this with car on it's tires.

Good Luck!

2000 Grand AM GT front passenger window isn't working.

Not 100% on yours whether all separate fuse or just one main, but it should be marked in fuse panel, or underside of cover, and check power distribution box under hood normally close to battery for fuse also.
