Merc V is correct, i would recomend motocraft, but castrol should be just fine. i would check to see that you didn't double gasket the filter, some times they can be a pai to get out.

How often should I replace transmission fluid ford sport trac 2009

Transmission Fluid--every 3 years-- on ALL Vehicles

Remove pan ,clean ,change filter & refill

Do not flush --you may put sediment into solenoids

Power Steering Fluid---every 3 years also

Pull injector fuses, put return hose in bottle under
truck & crank over the motor to flush out old fluid

Trans---- Mercon V Fluid only & I would add a bottle
of Red Lubgard--no other brand

If you have no issues after a couple weeks, change
again if you want 80% of old fluid out

Shudder on shift on 95 ford econoline van what could be the cause

shudder is almost always caused on Fords by the Mercon III fluid being worn out-and there is a TSB that Ford issued saying that mid 90's Fords should have the Mercon III drained and refilled with Mercon V-if you had the trans serviced, you should and ask that Mercon V be put in instead of Mercon III.

How many quarters of transmittion fluid do I need to refil a 2000 mercury grand marquiz???? and I need the steps to change the transmittion fluid on the same vehicle. ...

You obviously need to raise the car up so
you can get under it. Not many people have a floor jack

Then you need 4 jack stands--got them

You remove 16 to 19 bolts & remove the trans pan

Install a new filter
Put pan back on

Install from 4.5 to 6 quarts of Mercon or Mercon V Fluid
Check your owners manual

You will need metric tools
10mm socket I think

The pan gasket may be reuseable silicone
If not ,get the good brown paper waxy gasket & filter
from where ever the trans shops buy wholesale

I think a trans shop & about $80.00 will be
your best bet

If you go to a national franchise like I used to own,
they may have coupons to save whatever

2007 Ford Expedition EL Limited 4x4 ... no transmission fluid dipstick! How & where to check/add tranny fluid? Capacity? Thanks, Brad

On the bottom of the trans pan, there should be instructions.

You warm up the trans to 180 degrees or more, hold the drain plug with a 22mm wrench or 7/8",then remove the 1/8" pipe plug in the center with a torx bit.
If filled correctly fluid should just barely run out.

Capacity is around 12 quarts total.
You only get about four to four and a half, if you remove the drain plug or remove the pan to change the filter. Some extra will drain down while your doing the filter.
You need to have a special container that hold two quarts at a time, then you put an air hose to it,to pressurize, and blow the new fluid in,warm up,and any extra will drain back into your fill container.
I found on my Lincoln LS, you can fill it by removing the 3/8" tail housing plug. The other rear drive fords may be similar.

You want to get the old fluid out including your power steering every couple years or 30,000 miles.

I drained mine twice, ( 8 quarts),drove it two weeks to make sure it shifted okey, then repeated. (16 quarts total) I prefer that to a flush machine. I used to own a trans shop.

Use Mercon V and a bottle or two of Red Lubegard on final refill.
Use the power steering additive from lubegard with the correct P/S Fluid.
They are the only two chemicals I ever use on a vehicle, that I know ,not only work, but are necessary on some foreign trans.

If you look at the drain plug when it is out,you will see an extension tube. That is how the correct level is obtained with the torx plug out and fluid warmed up. You need the vehicle up on stands and level,so you can get under it.

What type transmision does my 2001 Deisel Ford Excursion have?

It should say right on the dipstick, it's probably Mercon III, or Dexron III. I recommend using Amsoil Synthetic ATF or at least Mercon V especially if you are towing or hauling a lot. I've worked for a construction company for over 20 years, they started using Amsoil ATF about 10 years ago in all the Fords and the transmission problems went away. It expensive oil but, so are trany jobs. We have trucks with over 300,000 miles that have never had trany problems. These are F-350's fully loaded all the time some are diesel but most have the V-10. Also, there's a rubber plug on the bottom of the bellhousing if you take that plug out and turn the engine you might find a plug to drain the torque converter too. Use a socket wrench on the crankshaft pulley bolt to turn the engine by hand. I say might because Ford quit puting the plugs on the converters in about 2001. If you drain it down completely it will hold about 15 quarts. Good luck.

Just need info about changing transmission oil in 1996 Ford Crown Victoria LX. I'm not familiar with type of Transmission oil to use and how many quarts it holds and location of the drain plug.

You will need to drop the trans pan to drain. In turn you will need a trans filter kit which will include the filter and gasket. As far as fluid, it will require mercon dexron auto trans fluid, and will take about 6 quarts. What I normally do is fill with 5 qts and check, then add half qt at a time till full, which is normally 6 qts.

98 toyota camry transmission service.

You can drain and fill your trans. It will take 2.5 -3.0 quarts of DEX III trans fluid....goes in the fill tube. Or you can get said transmission flushed which changes all fluid including torque converter.....about 15 quarts. Way more thorough.

Ford ATF is different from Dexron. Ford fluid contains banana oil, Dexron doesn't. Use only what it calls for. Or, you will always wonder. Good Luck.
