Speedometer and odometer and fuel gauge not working 2002 jetta gl

I had my battery die today. I jumped it and it was good besides the fact that my speedometer and odometer don't work now! My tachometer and oil temp are fine. But my fuel bounces from 3/4ths to full, and I have no movement on my speed or mileage. Oh just to add to complications my air bag system light just turned on too..Can anyone help me?? I'm trying to avoid crazy dealerships prices...Please help

Rockitman I tried what you said and the problem is still there...thank you for your advice but do you think it could be the speed sensor?? I got new tires today and after that I had these problems..isn't that strange?? I mean what else do you recommend?

Sounds like you jumped it straight to the battery post,You need to reset the computer,To do this,Unhook the battery for 3 or 4 minutes and then hook it back up.This will reset it and as long as you didn't fry a sensor or relay,It should be fine.

Please take time to rate this fixya

Yes it could be the speed sensor,I had one go out when I got new tires,I needed smaller on the front than the back and they messed up and put 2 small on one side and the 2 taller on the other and it killed mine.

Get the manual out, go to the fuse part and look for blown fuses, could be the problem

This is a result of either a bad solder job at the factory or just bad solder. You can remove your gage cluster and remove and resolder the joints at the back of the 2 indicators. there are several sites on the internet that have specific instructions.

Can be loose speedo wiring connectors under instrument panel or its issue with speed sensor on transmission.

97 VW Jetta GLS, manual transmission. The speedometer stopped working & the fuel gauge is jumping around.

Hi Ken You seem to have two faults with your vehicle. One will be a speed sensor and the other possibly a bad connection. Take the vehicle for a diagnostic scan and pin point the problems (which the scan will do) and then sort them out. Regards John

My 93 chevy s10 blazer speedometer is no working is electronic i test the plug on the speed sensor and i do not get any power

not a good idea to do a voltage test on a computer component, it can result in damage to the ECM.
if only the speedometer is not working and the other gauges do work, the first place to start is the speed sensor, it is the most common issues with inoperative speedometers.

THE SPEEDOMETER STOPS WORKING WHEN IT GETS HOT ON MY 2004 TRAIL BLAZER THANKS.

If everything else works ok, the vehicle drives normally, and all the other gauges are working then you may have a bad speedometer servo motor. This servo is what actually moves the speedometer needle to match the speed you are driving at. The cluster would need to come out and be repaired to fix this problem if this is the case.

You should have a speedometer cable that runs from the back of the trani, thru the fire-wall, and into the back oh the gauge cluster.
