We just bought a 2001 Ford Windstar and it makes a thinking noise in the front right, what could that be? I was told a u-joint but do they make that sound? I thought maybe a spring

Hello Ataya Mickelson,

I'm thinking... you meant ticking...??

Yes they (UNIVERSAL JOINTS) do...
but I pulled up your car on-line and IT APPEARS
you have CV-Joints
(on your "half shafts" (axle, each side)).

So do CV-joints (constant velocity joints) generally always start with a faint ticking... (if dry or hot even squeal) ... these sounds can get a LOT LOUDER ... and quite dangerous.

These joints might progress to grinding and even banging...
or simply FAIL and come completely apart (catastrophic).

Something that should NOT BE IGNORED
.

PARTS are not expensive (see below):

Thinking has always been one of my travails... problems & joys
(when done properly)... but regardless of how well or poorly I have done it... It has always been completely SILENT...
(I'm just saying).

Best regards... hope this helps!!

My 2001 ford windstar wont start-lights come on-but wont take a charge-help

Eventually, you will be replacing the battery (My 2000 Windstar is on its seventh one). Ford may have issued a factory service bulletin (FSB) for 2001 that applied to your vehicle.

Ford windstar 2001 is not blowing out heat. it makes a noise when the temperature bar is moved from side to side,

If the blower motor runs, I believe you have a broken linkage or hopefully it just came loose on your contol. Doesn't run: check fuse then relay then motor...

2001 ford windstar van: possible starter problem?

Making sure that you have the right component will help, but should be a relatively easy repair. There are only a few bolts on the starter and you should be able to remove it with a basic wrench and socket set. When you pull the part off check the gear on it to see if it is worn. This may be the problem. Usually, if it is the starter, though it will make a loud grinding noise. Kinda sounds like a high pitched impact gun. Replace the component making sure that you wire it exactly like the one you remove. Take a picture if necessary.

Knocking sounds

Windstar's are notorious for having intake manifold air leaks, they even make a kit to repair it. I would send it to a repair shop as it is a time consuming repair.
