Question about 1998 Volkswagen Passat

1998 volkswagen passat 160,000 mi 4cyl with turbo. TRANSMISSION

1998 volkswagen passat 160,000 mi 4cyl with turbo. When slowing to stop at 900 rpm transmission downshifts HARD, even barked tires once. PRND432 display is backlit constantly and tiptronic shifter option has stopped working. It seems to upshift fine in automatic mode. another strange coincidence is the electric release for the gas door has quit working. could this all be electrically related? I understand that that the trans fluid is "sealed" but can be filled without visit to dealer.

Thanks in advance Steve

Have someone run a computer scan first. Most likely you will find a defective tiptronic switch.

2.7 synthetic Mobil1 ATF oil, you need an oil pump to pump the fluid from the bottom of the transmission.

Doubt the computer is bad

Most likely ignition coils or ignition module

I have 1998 passat when i do 100km the rpm goes above 3000 it feels like needs a gear pls let me know what might be the problem

I am assuming that this is an automatic transmission and it would indicate that that the transmission is not shifting into high gear. The normal rpm range at 100km should be 1800 -2200 rpm's. A visit to the transmission shop would be my recommendation.

Not enough oil pressure to run turbo keeps burning it out 99 passat 1.8

Oil pressure at idle should be 2 bar and at 2000 rpm 3 - 4.5 bar. Verify the engine oil pressure.

The 1.8t engines have problems with sludge because of the turbo scorching the oil. If engine oil pressure is good you may want to clean or replace the oil supply and return lines and the turbo.
