Question about 2002 Isuzu Trooper

2 Answers

The check light on our 2002 isuzu trooper flashes. It's on the T.O.D (torque on demand)control panel. Also, the rear wheels on the T.O.D. stay illuminated green. Anybody know what we should do? Seems there is only one Isuzu dealer in NW Houston and I don't want to get ripped off. Thanks.

For the check engine light get a code reader at Autozone then google the results. As for the TOD rear wheels being illuminated, the wheels that are getting the power get illuminated and since the Trooper's rear wheels always get power they will always be illuminated.

The Isuzu 3.5's all burn about 1 quart between oil changes. It was an engineering flaw with that model engine. Some people have said that running full synthetic oil will correct the problem over time. Either way, it is extremely important that you check your oil regularly.

As for you second question: Torque on demand has at its heart wheel speed sensors which typically are the issue. Having a wheel speed sensor replaced will set you back about $300.

I hope I was helpful.

sounds like a sensor - when did it start - if just cranked up one day and bam it is there - sounds like either a brake wear indicator issue - if they are connected in those - or a fluid level change in the rear end or transfer case - look for leaks and check the brake pads or shoes

1998 isuzu trooper torque on demand lights go off when truck stops moving

It is Torque On Demand. When you are stopped there is no need for the front end to be engaged, no demand. Once you start moving, the lights should begin working as the demand for four wheel drive engagement increases, if the conditions require four wheel drive. It's the way the system works. Enjoy!
