The test connector is under the hood on the drivers side..

  1. Warm engine to operating temperature and turn ignition "OFF."
  2. Ground the test connector (1 pin wire) with a jumper wire. NOTE: Test connector is located next to the check connector in the engine compartment near the left side strut tower.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  4. If MIL illuminates, goes off, and stays off no codes are present.
  5. If MIL illuminates, goes off, and then starts flashing, codes are present.
  6. Count the flashes to determine the fault code.

Hi, Without engine details its difficult to know for sure but there is around a 90% chance it will have done some damage if jumped more than a tooth. The best way to test 100% without a rebuild is to reset the timing and carry out a compression test on the engine. If you have a good garage nearby they may have a bora scope that can be used to do a visual inspection but the above is the most surefire way.

The warning light looks like an engine. The car drives normally, and there are no other lights on. The manual says it could be several things. Can you be more specific about the likely cause? Is it safe...

If a light is on that looks like an engine that's the "check engine" light. It means the computer has detected a problem. It could be as simple as a loose gas cap or more serious. Depending on the year of your car, there are lots of components that are monitored, and to say what made the light come on is anyones guess. If it is newer than 1996, it will be OBD II and you don't really have to take it to a mazda place to get the code(s) read.

You should be okay to drive it the 15 miles to the mazda shop.

2008 Mazda bt 50. When i start the car, ABS light stays on. Fuse is good. Where else can i check??

Well obviously check the fluid levels first then realistically the only thing you can do as a DIY job would be to get behind each wheel and see if you can locate the wiring to the Wheel sensors. Ensure all these are tight and dry (inside and out). If that don't work I think you will need to have the codes read by a garage so you can determine which part of the system is causing the error.

Hi, the only way you can save money on getting this part replaced is to either go to a smaller back street garage as these will be a lot cheaper than main dealers.

now the only other option you have is getting the part yourself you could try the well known auction site, or you could search the net for mazda breakers and get second hand part, or the other option you have is to find your nearest breakers yard and get the part yourself.

if the problem is with the computer then their is no possible way of fixing it as it is all a sealed unit, so the only way you can save money is to get the part yourself and fit it yourself but if your fitting it yourself you will need to buy a code reader machine so you can reset the warning light.

let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

How to get powersteering pump out

I removed mine from underneath. There is not enough room to take it from the fender well. I can not remember exact steps but I used a Haynes manual to do this. It was a pain and I will not do another, I would rather pay a garage.
Good Luck
