Burning Oil!!! If its not burning carbon deposits and choking on an intake blockage. Both will cause severe power loss, though intake blockage is not an immediate sign of fatal engine problems. Power loss due to oil burning is a symptom of warn out piston rings and cylinder walls. This allows oil to seep up into the combustion chamber which at the same time allows the needed fuel/air compression to escape between the piston rings and cylinder walls. Either way, this is NOT a good symptom to experience. You may confirm or rule out the worn out internal engine components by checking the oil dip-stick for fresh gasoline odor......I would strongly advise you take your car to a reputable mechanic or dealership. And I'm really sorry, but as much as I love Jaguars, parts are EXPENSIVE! Your monetary health might suffer less had you even owned a Ferrari

SOURCE: Jag X TYPE Diesel Black smoke coming from exhaust on acceleration

i had this problem and thought the fuel filter oil filter needed replacing so i have just had a service done but problem is still there but not as bad. been told it could be the AGR valve or a split pipe going to it which recuirculates unused fuel back to burn again. therefore unspent fuel is coming out of the exhaust causing the black smoke. i am still looking for the answer aswell, hope this helps.

Black smoke when accelerating

Is it a diesel? Have noticed when following Jags that they all seem to smoke when hard accelerated. If not oil is burning in cylinders, bore wear or valves letting oil into combustion chamber,Get a compression check done.

Jaguar x type...started the car 2day when i put my foot on the accelerator there was no speed...i can put my foot all the way down and no speed its got no acceleration...its driving but slow...

if there is also black smoke coming out the exhaust - and the problem is intermittent - then it's the EGR valve - it sticks open - will need replacing.... Happened to mine this morning and this is what the Jaguar Assistance guy said. Mine is a 2006 2 litre X-type.

2004 Jaguar X-Type Problem 2.0d White smoke from exhaust when accelerating also power steering sluggish whwn cold

(1)That is the nature of the beast
just have to accelerate slower
(2) take a look at your coolant level
if you are adding coolant on a regular bases
you may have a small blown head gasket.
(3) if you only see white smoke at first starting the engine in may be just cold and
needs to warm up

Black smoke from nearside exhaust, on occasions.

Black smoke indicates it is feeding too much fuel. Maybe problems with the fuel pump.

Car lost power and started putting out black

The rubber pipe feeding air from the intercooler to the bottom of the EGR valve is probably split - this was the problem on mine - exact same symptoms!

Smoke coming from exhaust at higher speeds or when putting foot down, also acceleration jerky like am blipping the accelerator not cruising used to cruise 110 no bother now its taking it to reach 100

If the smoke is blue, it is burning oil. If it is black or dark grey it is running way too rich, like your choke is stuck on. That would also explaing the jerky acceleration and poor response. Your fuel consumption will also skyrocket.

Excessive black smoke when accelerating only 30000 on the clock

Lost power and Black smoke?

You have a Failed MAP Sensor and / or the vacuum line is off or cracked.

The ECU thinks the engine is under full load and is getting all the fuel it can to the engine.

Hope this tip helps guide you to solve this problem.
