1992 Volkswagen Cabriolet

My 1992 Volkswagen Cabriolet won't start, there is no ignition spark. I replaced the distributor cap & rotor. Any suggestions of what to try for this model? Thank You, Richard

Ignition coil was the problem. Ordered one online for $30 cheaper than I found in town. Had it in 2 days and am happily back on the road!

That is very interesting. If you have spark to the distributor means that the coil and a CP sensor are OK.Than you have to check ignition leeds and a spar plugs.Did you put correct rotor and a distributor cup?Check compression of the cilynders

Cant get the rotor button off of my 1992 volkswagon cabriolet

have you check to see if it is held on with a bolt that goes into the side of the rotor shaft.if so then it is probably a 10mm socket(3/8 socket might work)if it doesn`t then it is stuck to the distributor shaft and the rotor will have to be broken to remove.take some fine sand paper and clean the distributor shaft with it so the new rotor won`t be hard to install.

My engine turns but no spark I changed ignition coil and still no spark, what could it be?

Depending on which engine your car is equipped with; the following components could be at fault.

Crankshaft Position Sensor
Camshaft Position Sensor
ECM (Engine Control Module)
Distributor Cap or Rotor
Fouled Spark Plugs
Bad Plug Wires

If they haven't been replaced in the last 30K miles, I suggest you check and /or replace the the plugs and wires first.

If your engine is equipped with a distributor, check and/or replace the distributor cap and rotor if it hasn't been replaced in the last 30k miles.

If your engine is equipped with crank or cam sensors have them tested.

My 1992 VW Cabriolet will not start in humid or wet weather. Should I start repairs by checking moisture in the distributor cap and then replacing cap if necessary? If that does not fix the problem,...

first of all if you have moisture in your d-cap itll prob missfire or bk-fire when you try to start it. if this is the case then yest replace both the d-cap and rotor. you do both at the same time no mater what so you always start with clean electrodes and to ensure the propper spacing between the 2.

I would remove and verify the rotor is turning when the motor is cranked over, you may have a broken timing belt. Also check the ignition control module which is mounted under the hood, driver side, upper firewall, mounted below plastic drip tray.

check grounding first,
replace coil- not expensive.
check the module connected to the computer(ECU).

Ignition coil, transistor, rotor, distributor cap or other component in ignition circuit like ignition switch- may crank but no spark. In that order. Good luck.

Intake Mnifold gasket on a 2000 Chevy Blazer

Before doing anything else crank the engine to see which way it turns counterclockwise or clockwise. With the distributor cap removed. look for and locate the number one spark plug wire. If the engine turns clockwise you will have to install the wires in firing order clockwise.

After removing the number one spark plug. Turn the motor manually by hand until you can see that the piston is at the top. Check by inserting a rubber or platic straw that it is at the top. With both intake and outtake valves pressed down. you have to remove the valve cover for that. insert the distributor so that the rotor points to the number one spark plug. replace the cap and replace the wires as explianed. Clockwise or counter clockwise.
