Broken spark plug in the head on a 2005 Ford F-150 5.4L

What do you recommend for changing the spark plugs without breaking one? I have a 2005 Ford F-150 with a 5.4L and I've been told that the rear spark plug can break off in the head.It only has 40,000 miles on it but I want to avoid any problems in the future

Thanks for informing me about reading the owners manual. It doesn't say anything in there about removing broken spark plugs when it reaches 100K. I have heard horror stories about waiting to change plugs at 100K and they break off in the head because of a poor design in the head and it could cost 2-3 thousand to repair.I heard the plugs should be removed at 30 -40K and be coated with never seize to prevent a problem in the future. Thanks for your help anyway.I think I know what to do from here on.

I work in a Ford dealer never had any problem removing plugs. do u have igh quality tools, make sure the socket is well seated onto the plug base. It is not a faulty design, this is a great engine in every way.

in the 1st place the plugs don't need to be replaced until 100,000 miles, so u have given yourself a big headache over a service that wasn't needed, do u read the owners manual?

Typically when you break a spark plug, it is the ceramic portion that breaks. the bit left in the engine would still be removable. if your worried, just spray a little bit of wd40 on the plug and let it sit for a few minutes. they should come out alright... just take care not to break the new ones on installation

I need to locate the number 4 spark plug wire to replace the spark plug can you tell me how to locate this wire on a 05 ford expedition

Your vehicle doesn't have spark plug wires . Has coil on plug ignition system . Eight individual coils sitting right on top of the spark plugs . An the spark plugs have the tendency to break in the cylinder head . Does your ford have the 5.4 L 3 valve engine . Your best bet is to take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop that has the tool to take the broken spark plug out off the cylinder head. Need to change the spark plugs for a ford falcon bf lpg 2005 model

I think you need a special long spark plug socket to reach the plugs because the plugs are deep in the cylinder head if hemi type engine, hope this helps!

Hi, I have a 2002 mustang gt and the spark plugs keep coming out with the treads from the cylinder head. how do i fix the problem?

The cylinder heads will need to have Heli-coil inserts installed. There is a kit available that allows you to do this yourself but I would recommend having it done by a shop that has done them before as you can ruin the heads if you do it poorly.

Is there a way to change the spark plugs in a 5.4 without the danger of breaking them in the head? I understand it is a carbon buildup on the plugs in the com. chamber

Trust me, no matter what you do, the danger exists. Ford says to crack the plugs loose not mere than 1/4 turn and spray penetrating oil into the spark plug holes and let it soak for at least an hour. Then, carefully work the plug back and forth until it comes out. The problem that I have experienced is that the cracking 1/4 turn is what breaks the "blankety-blank" things. Once they are broken, you are done without the special tools needed to extract the thread part of the plug, then go fishing for the lower end which just fell down into the cylinder. This is definitely one of Fords WORST ideas.
I highly recommend that you do not try this at home!

When do spark plugs need changing

Ford recommends 100,000 miles on the original plugs. That is ok to do as long as it isn't missing or giving you any indication that they need changing. I hope this helps.

Is there a recall on 06 Ford mustang GT spark plugs. I've heard if you replace them yourselve you may break a spark pug and a portion would stay in the block.

This is true of any vehicle, when ever you replace sharkplugs in any vehicle this is a risk. What breaks on a spark plug is the white porcelin not the accual part that bolts into the block or head.If you are going to attempt this yourself(which I recommend)make sure you have the proper tools(socket set, spark plug socket, usually comes with the socket set, extensions,a swivel, spark plug boot removal tool is not nessary but if you havent replaced you sparkplugs in the past 3 years the wires may have become stuck)Make sure the gap is set properly, local parts store can provide this info, and start the new plugs by hand making sure that they are in straight.

There is any way that the Spark Plug from a 1996

For testing only it should work, but to get all the performance your 2005 engine offers, use Autolite HT0 sparkplugs
Be very careful removing the stock plug. Other are reporting that they break off easily and the heads might have to come off to get the broken pieces out. $$$$$$$$$

Be careful !!!

Good Luck
