Question about Ford Econoline

3 Answers

I have recently over heated my ford econovan. After allowing it to cool i added water back into the radiator and noticed it was coming out on the ground as quickly as i poured it into the radiator. on close inspection i found that the water is not coming ourt of the radiator but from behind the main flywheel mounted on the engine.Does this mean i have cooked it beyond repair or is it salvage-able

In response to captain morgans clarification request, yes I do mean the pulley wheel and not the flywheel, please excuse my ignorance, I come from the country

you say behind the main flywheel... do you mean the main pulley on the front of the engine? (the flywheel is between the engine and transmission)

The freeze plug solution would be correct if it was coming out of the bell housing. however, since the leak is from the front of the engine, a water pump or radiator hose connecting to the water pump seem the most likely culprits. hope this helps.

What this means is that you have a rusted out cylinder block core plug, some people call them freeze plugs (which is not what they are), since if one goes they are all ready to go it is best to replace them all, the problem is that it sounds like the one that went on your truck may be the one behind the trans bell housing, this of course means the trans must come out to replace the rear core plugs

Diagram for cooling system bleeder valve 02 deville

There isn't one !
Filling Procedure
Notice: Do not add cold water to the cooling system with the engine at or above operating temperature. Adding cold water causes rapid cooling, resulting in possible engine damage.
NOTICE: When adding coolant, it is important that you use GM Goodwrench DEX-COOL® or HAVOLINE® DEX-COOL® coolant. If Coolant other than DEX-COOL® or HAVOLINE® DEX-COOL® is added to the system the engine coolant will require change sooner; at 50 000 km (30,000 mi) or 24 months.
Notice: Do not use a solution stronger than 70 percent antifreeze. Pure antifreeze can freeze at -22°C (-8°F).
Important: This engine is not equipped with block drains, 2.5 L (2 qt) of residual coolant remains in the engine block.
Refill the cooling system. In order to ensure sufficient engine cooling, freezing and corrosion protection, maintain the protection level at -37°C (-34°F) or lower.
Start the engine.
Place the heater and A/C control in any A/C mode except Max and the temperature in the highest setting.
Allow the engine to continue idling until the lower radiator to water pump hose is hot.
Turn OFF the engine.
Allow the engine to cool to outside temperature. Ensure the coolant level in the surge tank is at the proper level (1).

I have just had my carby professionally rebuild, how do I reinstall a ford econovan carby 1999 model

Ah 'carby', Australian for 'carburettor'.

Water doesn't come out of anywhere on a carb, so I reckon it will be one of the heater hoses, either perished or split. Best was to find it is use a lead lamp and a small mirror. Hopefully you wont have to remove the carb to replace it. Might even just be a loose hose clamp. ford econovan cooling system Bing images

How do I bleed the cooling system?

Turn the heat control to max and remove radiator cap - add coolant as much as possible. Make sure overflow container is filled to correct level - then Start car and run - after the thermostat opens water level may go down some - keep adding coolant till it is totally full. Turn engine off and put radiator cap back on tight.

1990 BMW 525i 2.5L engine overheats after rplaceing water pump, stermostat,fan clucth,radiator

There's trapped air in the cooling system.
  • You need to remove the bleeder screw on top of the radiator when adding water to the expansion tank.
  • With the engine running, pour water into the expansion tank till you see air go out through the bleeder screw's hole.
  • Just keep adding water until no more air bubbles come out then just put the screw back in place.
  • Then fill the expansion tank to it's normal level/line.

Drained radiator added prestone Radiator flush refilled and started overheating, drained radiator replaced thermostat and now I get no heat from heater,Radiator water is hot

disconnect the heat hoses going into fire wall , put hose into one with pressure and flush as it sounds like it could be bloked in the heater core, the other thing that could be the problem be the hot ,cold switch as it restricts the flow to makes the heater hoter or colder , it might need tlc or replacing as it is manaul not elec

I have a 2000 Ford Taurus my blower is blowing fine the heat is coming out cold i have recently changed my theromastat and the heat is still blowing cold

The heater core (a mini radiator located under the dash) or its feeder hoses are clogged. They are not allowing water to circulate through the heater core. That is where the heat comes from.

Just recently, timing belt and water pump were changed in my Honda Civic LX 2001. After which, I noticed that its temperature keeps rising despite the fact that I just put coolant in the radiator. On stop,...

The coolant that you are adding fills up to the top of radiator, then slowly drains down through engine block and water pump, You will have to fill radiator completely about 2 times for it to stay full for good.
