Question about 2004 Chevrolet Aveo

Chevy Aveo 1.6 Engine, Timing Belt Broke, Replaced,Runs Rough?

Hi,

First I'd Like To Thank You For Your Wonderful Service here,
I Purchased A 2004 Chevy Aveo With The 1.6 Engine. I Have read A Bunch Of Bad Stuff About Them Especually With The Timing Belts breaking. I Have A Question.

I Had The Chevy Dealer Replace the Timing Gears, Crankshaft Pully, Tensioner, Belt, Plugs, And They Did That Costing Me $700.00.

They Asked If I Wanted To Have Them Do More Diagnosing And I Refused (TOO MUCH MONEY SPENT ALREADY) The Car Turns Over Good And Starts Right Up Nice.

The Only Problem I'm Having Is While It Is Running It Is Running Rough. When I Accelerate It Runs As If The Spark plug Wires Were Arching Off Or Something, What I Mean It Runs Rough Like That Would Cause. It Will Not Stay Ideling Either.

The Dealers Guess Is That I May Have Bent Valves
1. My Question Here Is, What Are The Steps In Replacing Valves?
2. How Long Is Labor Usually?
3. If I Continuing Driving The Car Like This Will This Cause Any Other Problems? If So What?

Thanks

Robert

Did you have the dealer change the belt because it broke ?
If this is the case they should know if it is an interfearance engine and if it is in fact an interference engine they should have checked the valves. If you had the belt changed just because you were scared it was going to break on you then I am sure the car ran fine when you took it in.
The explanation you gave sounds to me like they have the belt a tooth off and they need to re do it because the timing is out.
I hope this helps
Regards
Sam

Does an 04 aveo have an interfernce engine?

Hi,
Yes a 2004 chevy aveo with a 1.6 L inline 4 cylinder is an interference engine. Hopefully you did'nt snap the timing belt while driving, because usually it will bend up some valves and even could crack a piston. Most likely if that did happen you will need to take the head off and have the valves inspected / replaced and inspect for piston damage as well......Mike

Timing belt Broke are valves worped?

Hello momma_green: My name is Roger and I will help you. The 2005 Chevy Aveo 1.6 engine is a interference motor. That means if the timing belt breaks. The valves will be bent. I have one in my shop now that the belt broke on it. Bent all 16 valves and damaged all 4 pistons. This is not a forgiving motor. I wish I could tell you good news but I cant. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer you received. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

Chevy Aveo - Lousy Fuel Milage, From 33+hwy to 19mpg

try giving your car a simple service, change oil, oil filter, air filter, plugs and leads etc. also get your wheels aligned and balanced as having bad geo can also be bad for fuel consumption. if that doesnt work then id recomend a garage.

Timing belt

first of all did you do the belt as maintenance or did the belt brake and you replaced it? if the belt broke chances are yo have bent valves for the engine to run rough.

2004 aveo timing belt broke, all valves bent

just go to any junk yard and find a used deawoo lanos and pull the head if timing belt was not broke, if it looks good, its a exact fit 100%, no special tools needed, just normal wrench set and torqe wrench. after head is installed, get a gates timing belt only.
