Question about 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix
I know it isn't the bulb or flasher. It only stays on when i wiggle pivot handle, but handle doesn't snap back after left turn is completed. Right side works just fine. could it be the pivot handle or the directional switch in the steering column that is causing the problem, also i need to know how to remove the steering wheel locking plate to get to the directional switch. I have removed the steering wheel. thanks for the earlier help.
The locking plate is held in place by a retention ring that fits in a groove on the steering column. There are several ingenious ways to get it off but you might as well go rent/loan the correct tool as its one of those things that comes off easier than it goes on. The tool will depress a small but very strong spring behind the plate so the ring comes off easily, carefull dont let it fly off and get lost. If the turn signal stalk is not broken this is a good sign as you say that the right side works, you should be able to see what is going on once you have it opened up. Sometimes the turn signal actuator assy can be taken apart and cleaned the springs adjusted and reassembled. If you dont have the experience or the patients just get a new one, but it can be done.
