Question about 2003 Jaguar S-Type
Can't shift car out of park2003 Jaguar, stuck in park, still. The rocking thing hasnt worked so far. I 'assume' its a solenoid. It gave us a few warnings now that I look back, that is, the shifter hung in park position several times before I carefully and methodically depressed the brake pedal slowly and then I could shift it. Touchy as a Ferrari, almost...
Is there a manual gear shifter option or is towing the only solution?
The shifter for this vehicle has a nuetral safety switch or park switch inside of it. The shifter should be replaced. The brake depressing is tricking the system and could be over riding the nuetral safety switch . You should try and get the vehicle to a transmision shop to correctly diagnose the concern or have the shifter assembly replaced.

There is a shift safety interlock switch at the top of the brake pedal near the steering column that has failed or is out of alignment.... or its corresponding solenoid has failed.
under normal operation - pressing the brake engages a solenoid to allow the car to be shifted out of park.
CLICK HERE to see an example of the shift lock solenoid. It is not your exact vehicle - but gives you an idea.
The only way to test is to disassemble the console, and check for 12VDC at the solenoid when the brake is pressed.
If there is no voltage - the switch on the brake pedal is bad.
I am not aware of a manual override like on some other vehicles.
Doublecheck your owners manual.
