SOURCE: Traction control and ABS lights on.

When you have those lights on --- it could also be the abs sensor, it's most likely a faulty abs sensor. I think it's located on the front right wheel...get it check out or just replace it about $40-50 at most auto places.

SOURCE: where is the abs speed sensor on a 5 series bmw?

You have 4 wheel speed sensors. There is one at each wheel located just behind the hub. You can trace it by loacting the black insulated wire leading out from the wheel well and going behind the wheel.

Abs light came on

What it looks like: The traction control warning light typically takes the form of the acronym "TC." Sometimes this light is a small illuminated picture of a car losing control. How this system works: Traction control uses wheel speed sensors to detect when one or more of the car's wheels lose grip and traction. When the system registers a loss of traction in one or more of the wheels, a computer will limit power to the wheels that are still in solid contact with the road to prevent a skid. Common reasons for this to happen:
  • ABS is malfunctioning: Traction control and ABS (anti-lock braking system) often share the same control module and internal self-diagnostics system. As a result, sometimes an issue in the ABS can trigger the traction control light. If this is the case, then both the ABS and Traction Control lights will be on.
  • Broken wheel speed sensors: Wheel speed sensors are usually in the wheel bearing assembly, and determine the rate at which each wheel is moving. The sensors relay that information to the traction control module, which determines whether or not power needs to be shifted. Wheel speed sensors can get dirty or damaged and stop working, which prohibits the traction control module from knowing when to enable the system.Traction control module is faulty: The traction control module - which, again, is often shared with the ABS - can malfunction and break altogether, causing the system to stop working. What to expect: A top-rated mobile mechanic will come to your home or office to determine the source and cause of the traction control issue, and will then provide a detailed inspection report that includes the scope and cost of the necessary repairs. How important is this service? It's important to have the traction control issue investigated as soon as possible, as adverse driving conditions can arise at any time. While your car is unlikely to incur further damage from a faulty traction control system, it won't be safe to drive in rain, snow, sleet, or other inclement weather, or even possibly through pools of water on the road. Furthermore, the issue that is causing the traction control light to illuminate could also be impacting the ABS.

ABS/Traction and Turn Signal issue.

bad wheel speed sensor or wiring to it open or shorted. just fixed same ABS & Traction Control problem on my 2001 Chevy. No matter make or model the systems are pretty much the same.

ABS and TC work together, a problem with either one of these will set both lights.

If you can get a ACTRON Code reader 9185 it will read Gobal and ABS codes. Don't know if your local auto parts store will be able to read ABS codes for you. I repaired mine for $140.00 no more problems - take it to a dealer and you will be looking at $800.00 plus.

good luck

There are wheel speed senors that tell the computer about wheel slippage. One or both are malfunctioning or the wiring is chaffed.

Speedo suddenly not working and two warning lights appeared on dashboard one being ABS light warning light.

If the ABS (and likely the traction control) light came on at the same time that the speedometer stopped working, you likely have a faulty wheel speed sensor at the right rear wheel. You can test this by swapping the two rear wheel speed sensors (ABS sensors). If the speedometer then works (but the ABS & Traction control lights stay on), replace the sensor that is now at the left rear (was at the right rear). If no change, you may have a fault in the ABS & Traction control - control unit.

Traction light, antilock light com on and stay on

When your ABS light is on continuously it is telling you there is a problem in the system.
As long as the light is on it shuts down the ABS system and the traction control along with it. The two systems work hand in hand with one another so if one part of it has a problem the other cannot continue.
What I see in my shop most of the time is a broken wire harness to the wheel speed sensors or a speed sensor itself.
The easiest way to find it is to use a scan tool to determine which wheel sensor is causing the problem, then using an ohm meter check the resistance value of the sensor. Most are around 1000 ohms.
