Question about 2008 Saturn Astra

1 Answer

Hello, I have an astra life, auto 54 plate. For the past couple of weeks it intermittently makes a progressively loud whirring type screeching noise which completely stops when I brake but resumes when I press the accelerator. It doesn't do it all the time and then stops for a while. The garage told me to bring it in when its making the noise, easier said than done, any suggestions? Thank you.

You need to replace the brake pads. They have wear indicator when the pad is worn it will make that sound. They have a metal piece that scrapes the brake disks letting you know its time to replace them. Follow the link to find out more.

Scenic 54 plate. What causes a loud screeching noise when handbrake applied and parking brake fault on dash?

noise when applying the park brake indicates metal to metal on the brake pads ( no brake linings )
Check out that area first before spending money on anything else
To get an exact diagnosis of the problem and to get a quote for the repairs, find an accredited brake specialist shop ( preferably one with Renault experience) and make an informed decision from that

Loud brake noise in 97 buick lesabre

When you had the drums off, did you inspect the shoes for excessive wear? And How do the drums look? Are they grooved? Can you be more specific about the loud noise. Does it sound like a grinding noise, or a screeching or pulsating noise. Is it lower pitch or high pitch?

I have a 99 Ford Superduty 7.3 Diesel. It is making a really bad grinding/screeching sound just after it starts and is warming up. It wouldn't ******* off all the way even after the key was turned

indicates that the starter motor is stuck in the ring gear
possibly faulty starter relay or starter solenoid
pull the starter as the pinion over ride clutch is probably damaged ( noise ) and have the start circuit and relay checked
have the starter bench tested for serviceability by an accredited auto electrician

What is causing the steering wheel to make a loud noise when I move it?

Hi, if it is making a whining, screeching type, grinding noise, check the power steering fluid level. It will show marks on the cylinder where the level should be when the fluid is hot and cold. Also, not knowing the year of the auto, check the belt or serpentine belt if that applies to your auto for wear, cracking, brittleness, and so on. The bearings may also be going out on the power steering pump. Check these things first and keep me posted on the out come.
Sincerely,
Shastalaker7

Starting trouble 2000 suburu outback

From the way you are describing your problem it seems to me that your fuel pump is in the process of dying. The whirring noise is as if the pump is gasping for life. Your problem sounds like a fuel delivery problem. If you take a preasure test of pump you may find that you need a new pump. Good Luck Friend.

These cars are fitted with an electronic dash light dimmer switch. Chances are this is your problem. Have changed a couple in the past.

As for whirring, is it from the engine bay?
