Anywhere along the intake tube to the throttle body. Look for cables and harnesses around the intake.

Picture of where the idle air control is on a 2008 f-150 4.2 engine

I believe you may be looking for the MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR. It is located in the throttle body just after the hose coming from the engine air filter..it controls how the engine runs including idle and throttle...most are round and have fine wire mesh with one or two very small wires with tiny sensors built in...They become dirty and will malfunction effecting the Idle and acceleration..or just plain shut the engine down If defective...A very small amount of oil and dirt build up will effect it...so you may not see the dirt...They sell a mass air flow spray cleaner at the auto parts stores...just be careful because they are very sensitive..so no brushes or metal tools only spay..if that doesn't work chances are it is bad...Many of them are interchangeable with other auto manufactures so check for compatibility..This isn't a hard job to change so most are DIY and can be bought on EBAY or other sites on the Internet..New ones can be very expensive.I bought mine on eBay for a fraction of the price and works fine..just try to fine the one with the lowest miles or from one fro a vehicle that was rear ended or did not take a hard front end hit..this way you know for sure it was working the last time the vehicle was operating....My original failed at about 120,000 miles to they do last...hopefully this is what you are looking for..and good luck.

I have a 98 Nissan Frontier. It wasn't running right so I unplugged the maf sensor and it ran better. I bought a new one from eBay. Replaced it and now it's running worse than before

    • The engine drags or hesitates when idle or under load.
    • The engine hesitates and jerks during acceleration.
    • The engine hiccups.
    • The engine displays unusually lean or rich idling.

The computer only knows the voltage across what it thinks is the MAS. A bad wiring connector and a bad MAS is all the same to the computer. I would change the harness to the MAS before I spent any time or money on any other problem solving.

I have a 2002 chevy blazer it dies when i go to stop and has trouble picking up speed after pushing gas

Could have a vacuum leak , Is the check ENG. light on ? Could need spark plugs, plug wires ,distributor cap . The IAC motors ,idle air control motor passage could be plugged with carbon. Bad mass air flow sensor could do it. Check for critter nests , found that cars that sit for a while , squires and rodents like to make nests under the hood . I have found air boxes full of dog & cat food. They take insulation and make nests. Check the Air Cleaner Restriction Indicator
The air cleaner restriction indicator is located on the intake duct between the air cleaner assembly and the mass air flow (MAF) sensor.
If the area inside of the clear section is green, no air filter service is required. If the area inside the clear section is orange and Change Air Filter appears, replace the air filter.

I cant locate the iat and the maf sensor wires on my car.

I can tell you that the mass air flow sensor is up front on the drivers side of the engine. It will be located on top of the round black tube that runs behind the air cleaner box. The IAT, or the IAC valve should be located closer to the engine towards the end of that same tube. That's where the throttle body is located. I would suggest going to your local library and referencing a Mitchell or Chilton repair manual if there is one available for that new of a model.

Map sensor bad and can't find one

A manifold absolute pressure sensor (MAP) is one of the sensors used in an internal combustion engine's electronic control system. Engines that use a MAP sensor are typically fuel injected. The manifold absolute pressure sensor provides instantaneous manifold pressure information to the engine's electronic control unit (ECU). This is necessary to calculate air density and determine the engine's air mass flow rate, which in turn is used to calculate the appropriate fuel flow. (See stoichiometry.)
An engine control system that uses manifold absolute pressure to calculate air mass uses the speed-density method. Engine speed (RPM) and air temperature are also necessary to complete the speed-density calculation. Not all fuel-injected engines use a MAP sensor to infer mass air flow; some use a MAF (mass air flow) sensor. Several makes use the MAP sensor in OBD II applications to test the EGR valve for functionality. Most notably General Motors uses this approach.

Find one HERE at eBay and have it in 2 days or so...
