Are the mounting brackets held on by a special bolt, like with Chevy's there is a special 3/8ths Hex bolt holding the Caliber in place.

Rotors are pretty simple, you just need to remove the two caliper mounting brackets, this can be done by removing the 2 bolts located behind the rotor, simply remove the 2 bolts from each side and the rotor will slide right off of the studs.

I have a 1999 Dodge Ram and I have a deceleration jump/vibration at around 50-40 mph. When the brake is lightly applied it happens, when heavy brake applied it stops. I'm thinking front whell bearings

The front rotors are warped, the reason you feel it when lightly braking is because the pads are just brushing the high spots as they come by. Heaving braking will lock them in tighter and you will not notice it. They have to take the rotors off to turn them so they can check the wheel bearings at the same time and replace or pack them. Just have the rotors turned if they are not worn under the federal limits. If they are worn too bad you will have to replace them.

1999 jeep grand cherokee limited warped rotors

  • Simply put, dealers are not always the most honest. Warped rotors is a very serious event. They warped from heat and a fair amount of it at that. The issues causing this should have been immediately addressed.

  • Lathing them down is a ridiculous concept in this case. They should have sent those rotors off for a quality inspection and the issue fixed as well as your rotors replaced. Perhaps at a cost but they were grossly negligent putting lives at risk. I would consider filing a complaint and never use them again.

Shakey steering wheel while braking

Hi, the problem is most likely due to warped rotors on your front disc brakes. I had a similar problem on my 1999 Grand Am. If that's the case you should replace the rotors and check the calibers and pads to ensure they are not in bad shape. If the rotors are unevenly wearing they should be replaced and if your caliber pistons or boot looks damaged then the calibers may need replacing. Ensure that the front pads have the proper lubricant where they slide in the caliber otherwise they can bind and cause your rotors to warp again because of excessive heat. Hope that helps you out.

My car front end wobbles when braking and at higher speed

did you have the front brake rotors machined, they are warped. either replace the brake rotors or have then machined, I prefer just replacing them as they are fairly cheap.

Shakes when taking foot off the brake

thats usually a warped rotor .. the rotors can be trued up on a lathe or replaced .. the new ones are often made in china but seem to be good quality and low cost .. there are other possibilities like a loose front wheel bearing or lug nuts .. but usually its just warped rotors ..

Why do my front rotors get worped so fast?

warped rotor happen for a couple of reasons, first is someone who rides there brakes down a hill instead of pulling it out of overdrive, second is someone who is used to riding their left foot on the brake pedal, third is coming to a quick stop and going to fast type driving.
if you've replaced the rotors you should know there are three types that are sold the lowest price rotors about $20.00 each are not the thinkness of your originals, then the price goes up to the mid grade, then there are the best which are original thickness,
the thinner the rotor the faster it will heat up and cool warped.

Shake in front end

yes that is a very common feeling in warped rotors, if you feel the brake pedal the pulsing then you defintly have warped rotors, replace rotors and brake pads, never reuse pads when they have been in contact with a warped rotor, they will cause the new rotors to warp also

I think my front rotors are warped!

it depends on if there is enough metal to have them turn. often right out of the box they need to be machined. you can often pick up a set at a junk yard and have them turned.

hard to say which is cheaper as i'm uncertain of the cost of new rotors.
