No. try driving around for 5 to 10 minutes to warm up the catalytic converter. the catalytic converter is what converts the CO, CO2, and NOx emissions into water vapor, however, it doesn't work unless it's hot, around 1000 degrees F. it is heated be the flow of hot exhaust around it, so you need to drive for a while to heat it up.

How many miles do I need to drive to complete the drive cycle

hi
generally the catalic converter get oily especially if the car is used
around the town the best thing to do from past experience is to drive the car down the motorway at 60mph. for good 3/4 hour at high revs
third gear if 4 gear motor you get the meaning this way you burn the oil
out because lots more heat is crated once this is done youshould pass the emission. happy driving

1989 Toyota 22re fails California Emissions Test. Rebuilt the engine 20K or so miles ago. Has passed most tests with just a little bit of timing adjustments. At 15 MPH, (1670 RPM) HC measures 153...

HC is hydrocarbons or unburnt fuel.(raw fuel ).NO no such gas measurement.did you mean CO this is carbon monoxide or incomplete combustion.(all the fuel is not being burnt).if you mean NOX this is nitrates of oxide and is related to a heat problem.(motor running hot,bad catalytic converter).its probably getting too much fuel and not burning it all, possibly tune-up problem, carburetor(if it has one),bad fuel injection system(dirty injectors),computer(if it has one)may be getting a wrong signal.these are in reference of high HC and CO.for high NOX cooling system not keeping motor cool enough, cooling fan problem(weather clutch fan or electrically controlled cooling fan),poor cooling system circulation, bad catalytic converter.not a running lean problem as the other gases indicate rich problem.the converter may not be able to convert the emission gases to H2O and CO2 out the tailpipe.

Check engine light went on today in my 2008 tacoma the tacoma has 37000 miles

Stop by a local Autozone or any good auto parts store and have them do an OBII scan for you. Most will do it for free. They read the fault codes and let you know what triggered light. Have them reset the light for you also.

The emission system light came on today and will not go off. What would cause that to happen I have a 2003 Ford Focus with 37000 miles

might possibly be caused by the gas cap not on good. try taking the cap off and putting it back on.

Ford failed MOT on High CO emission

High CO usualy means the O2 sensors are not reading properly. Take it to a parts store that can read codes, I know Auto Zone does in my area. If it is the O2 sensor it is an easy fix but the sensors run about $50.00 each.
