Hey stuart1945,

Their is now real common oil leaking problems on xj that i have seen over the years. I would said if i was forced to pick one, i would first check the valve cover gaskets. I think that would be the most likely. I know this isnt a x-type but they leak from the engine oil pan all the time, i would check there next.

Another thing i would suggest if you really dedicated to find this oil leak and your have a hard time finding it. Is get some oil dye, a black light and some glasses. You can get these at almost any part store, the oil dye will light up when you shine a black light on it. Hopefully this helps you good, good luck, let me know if you need more help

Where is the fuel filter located on a Jaguar xj8 2003?

if it is the older xj its at the lh rear over the top of the drive shaft area, if its the later all alluminium xj350 module i think it is under the lh plastic cover that runs down the lh underside towards the front of car, hope this helps.

Fault code P1647, wiring ECM

There are many places that Oil can come from.

Most common is the Valve Cover but you need to spray the engine down and then look very closely to find some of them... Oil Pressure Sending Units, Intake, Water Jackets, The list goes on and on.

What type of engine oil should I use in a 1986 xj12 h.e. engine and should it be mineral or synthetic oil.

I would recommend a good 10W40 standard oil. The V-12 uses almost a case of oil ( 11 qts ) per change and synthetic would be really pricey. Also the Jag engines of that period had a tendency to leak oil, so much so that Jaguar put out a notice to call it "controlled seepage", so the rumour goes. Synthetic oil will leak at a greater rate than a nonsynthetic in an engine with leakage problems.

Just bought a 2003 S-type jaguar with 80,000 miles , the car drives great and looks perfect , although this morning i noticed that it was leaking some fluid under the motor area , it looks like oil but im...

Don't worry too much. The fluid could be the steering fluid. Usually, the clamp at the rubber hose to the metal need to be tightened up. When it looses, it causes some leak then when the is moving, the wind makes it splashed on to the engine block, make it difficult to determine what kind of fluid is. Have the engine cleaned. Dry it out then turn on the engine at idle to find any sign of fluid coming ing out from seal interfaces to address the problem. Cheers

I have been with same problem on a BMW 325i.
It is because you need to add oil. Less oil= extrem temperature!
try to add oil, better to change oil and filter.

I have a 1995 lumina with the 3.4L engine. I have a slight oil leak and from the looks of the bottom of the car it has been leaking for quite a while. I just bought the car so i wouldnt know. But the oil...

SERIOULSY!!!!! first, go to a car wash, steam clean/ shampoo the entire engine (taking care to avoid directly spraying electricl components/distributor) then drive for about 10 km (6 miles) and look underneath the hood and see where the oil is possibley leaking from. Remeber, oil can leak down from the top and make somethine below it look as though that is where the oil is coming from. Also, the fan air can blow the oil from front to back making the oil drip from all over.
Possible places that oil leaks come front: top = valve cover. front = cam shaft or crank shaft seal if from the rear = could be rear main seal.

2003 Jaguar S-Type, programming a key fob

If its a new key fob the only way you can program it is this the factory scan tool, u'll have to take it to a dealership for them to do this and they will charge you .5 hrs for labor.only x-types can be programmed without the jaguar software. Im guessing it will cost you between 40 and 50 bucks to have them program it.
