Question about 2005 Dodge Neon

Cam sensor causing other probelems

I have a 2005 dodge neon. Its over 100,000 miles now. The engine light has been coming on. Some days it drives fine.. Other days it jerks/sputters when i try to go over 60 mph. Took it to auto zone and it said cam sensor, but at times it stalls in starting.

Could there be someting else wrong with it or can the cam sensor cause these problems?

The cam sensor definitly can cause the problem. pull the trouble code and make sure the check engine light is for the cam sensor. if so, replace it and retest

First there are two sensors that can cause that one is the cam sensor the other is the thrilled sensor they work together . If you have more then 80,000 miles you need to check the timing belt to.

Replace timing belt on 2005 neon and now have codes for fuel trim issues

I would say there is a good chance one of the cams is off a tooth or two.
The cam can be off enough to cause the cam sensor to send the wrong signal to the computer but the engine will still run.

I just changed a fuel pump in an 05 dodge neon and the car still acts like it loseing fuel pressur what would be wrong?

Does the engine run if you spray starting fluid (from any auto parts store or hardware store) into the air intake of the engine? If so the injectors are not delivering fuel (we call this injector "pulse") or you have other engine problems like a jumped camshaft timing belt? Does the camshaft drive pulley turn when the engine is cranked over? If not the camshaft drive belt has gone away. Also check all the fuses with a 12 volt test (available from any parts store for about $5) light 15 amps and up to 30 amps, Are any of them not lighting the 12 test light on both sides of the fuse with the ignition key on? Do you have power to one side of which injector with the key on? Be meticulous and check everything until you find the cause of the no start. Also the camshaft drive belt lasts about 90,000 miles to about 100,000 miles, then it can go at any time with the resulting no start.

Check your vacuum lines, it sounds like one did not get reconnected correctly. When this happens you check engine to come on and will cause your engine's rpm's to rise.

2005 Dodge Neon: Hard codes say it is the camshaft now what do i do?

Your going to have to replace the camshaft sensor, the sensor may be going bad or the wire where it comes over the rear of the engine may be chaffing at the valve cover causing the lose of the signal to the ECM.
I believe the Camshaft sensor is on the left side of the engine at the back of the cylinder head.
Good luck and hope this helps, it takes about 30 to replace with simple tools.

Blinking Check Engine light

This is typically a sign of a "detrimental misfire". A blinking check engine light means DON'T DRIVE ME! You may want to have your coil pack checked, plugs replaced or gapped properly, or wires replaced. Would also have to do with the camshaft sensor causing your timing to be off.
