Without actually seeing the density and smelling the smoke it's kindof hard to tell, Has the vehicle ever overheated? does it smell sweet? or does it smell like burning oil, chances could be that there is a small leak in the head gasket, or your vehicle could be just buring oil, but white smoke at startup is never a good sign.

It sounds like oil is seeping into the cylinders while the car is stationary and then being burnt off in one big puff of smoke when you start the engine. You're probably also burning oil when the car is running. You may notice that you have to constantly add oil to keep the level up. It's not uncommon for old engines to burn oil. The proper fix would involve either a ring job or a valve job both of which involve quite a bit of labor. If you had to pay a mechanic to fix it, it may cost more than the car is worth. It not a great solution from the air pollution standpoint but you could probably continue driving the car for years by just adding oil as needed. You may have to replace the spark plugs more often because the burning oil will tend to foul them.

Sorry but white smoke is a sign of water getting into 1 or more cylinders.I would pull the oil dipstick and see if it looks like a creamy color. If it does then you may have a blown head gasket or a crack in the engine block somewhere.

Sounds like the rings inside a broken or worn out or maybe to much oil in the sump.
generally white bluish smoke is burning oil, black smoke is excess petrol

Smoke coming from engine

if it's white smoke....then get ready for a big engine repair bill or replacement of engine.....if it's another color then you'll probably need gaskets replaced or even possibly a ring job...either case...it's expensive.....

98 PLYMOUTH GRAND VOYAGER WONT START - BLOWS ENG FUSE - HELP

You have a shorted engine harness, this is not common but it does happen, heat and engine movement cause damage to the harness, this is most common on hi miler cars and vans, the only way to fix it is to start by looking anywhere the harness rubs, that is where the damage occurs.
