Question about 2002 Nissan Sentra

2002 Nissan Quest tuneup and stuff

We just purchased a 2002 Quest with 89K miles. Our 5th nissan in the family. In comparison to our up-for-sale 2000 Buick Century with 136K mi, Nissan's engine is little rougher, louder, and kind of jerky. Buick's is smooth as a butter. What should I do to make this go away? Start with spark plugs? I don't know if the dealer has serviced it except oil change and detailing before the sale. I mean the van runs fine, but not silky smooth as the Buick. I can tell the difference. Maybe we are just not used to the new v6? I would also like to replace a fuel filter and hear your recommendations on any other stuff to do. Is there a timing belt or just chain?

So, should I change:
1. spark plugs
2. distributor cap (needed?)
3. fuel filter (should be easy)
4. timing belt (if no chain) - but this would have to be taken in, too complicated

Thanks!

Same as on all your vehicles

The same as you have done all your life

Tune-ups went by the wayside 25 years ago

Spark plugs etc--every 3 years or 70,000 miles
Filter -every 3 years or 30,000 miles
Brake fluid every 2 years
Trans& Power Steering every 30,000 miles

Set up your own schedule from past experience

I assume you keep no log book, if have to ask

How many miles to replace timing belt for nissan quest 1996

spec is 105,000 miles, but they go 150K easily. If it breaks, it won't cause any damage to the engine.

it's a freewheeling engine. Interval is 105,000 but most go to 160,000 easily.

I would just kep driving, no engine damage will happen if it breaks. engine will just stall.

Gear box Malfunction in the 2004 Nissan Quest... when in park, goes in reverse and in reverse, goes forward... what can this be?... Richard, Farmington, Michigan

Sounds like your shift cable has gotten out of sync, If this is the case, you take the shify cable loose from the link on transmission, then shift link to park position , then adjust cable to line up to the link and rehook. I don't know exactly how your set up looks but the procedure is the same on most cars.

Rotor life

No, the stuff installed from the factory sometimes is junk. a good aftermarket set of rotors will prolong the life of them.
